Introduction and Overview
The VTech SN5147 Amplified Corded/Cordless Senior Phone System is designed to provide clear and easy communication, especially for seniors or individuals with hearing impairments. This system combines the reliability of a corded phone with the flexibility of a cordless handset, featuring large buttons, a big display, and enhanced audio capabilities.

Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to set up your VTech SN5147 phone system:
- Connect the Base Unit: Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base unit. Plug the other end into a telephone wall jack.
- Connect Power: Plug the small end of the AC power adapter into the POWER jack on the back of the base unit. Plug the large end into a wall outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
- Install Cordless Handset Battery: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the cordless handset. Connect the battery pack connector securely into the jack inside the compartment. Place the battery pack with the label facing up and close the cover.
- Charge Cordless Handset: Place the cordless handset in the base unit's charging cradle. The CHARGE light on the handset will illuminate, indicating it is charging. Allow the handset to charge for at least 16 hours before initial use.

Key Features and Operation
Big Buttons & Large Display
The phone system features oversized buttons and an easy-to-read display screen on both the corded base and cordless handset, making dialing and navigating menus simple and comfortable.

Photo Dial
Program up to eight frequently dialed phone numbers on the corded base and four on the cordless handset, and attach a photo to each for convenient one-touch speed dialing. This feature is ideal for quick access to friends and family.

50dB Audio Assist
Temporarily increases overall incoming sound volume by up to 50 decibels and enhances sound frequencies to make speech easier to hear and understand. This feature is activated with a dedicated button on the handset.

90dB Ringer Volume & Visual Ringer
The extra-loud ringer ensures you can hear incoming calls throughout your home. A visual ringing indicator also flashes to alert you to incoming calls, providing an additional cue for those with hearing difficulties.

Smart Call Blocker
Say goodbye to unwanted calls. Robocalls on your landline are automatically blocked from ever ringing through—even the first time. You can also permanently blacklist up to 1,000 numbers with one touch.

Operating Instructions
This section covers basic operation of your VTech SN5147 phone system.
- Making a Call: Lift the handset or press the TALK/FLASH button on the cordless handset or the speakerphone button on the corded base. Dial the phone number.
- Answering a Call: When the phone rings, lift the handset or press the TALK/FLASH button on the cordless handset or the speakerphone button on the corded base.
- Ending a Call: Place the handset back in the cradle or press the OFF/CANCEL button on the cordless handset or the speakerphone button on the corded base.
- Speakerphone: To use the speakerphone, press the speakerphone button on either the corded base or cordless handset during a call. Press it again to switch back to the handset or end the call.
- Volume Control: Use the VOL +/- buttons on the side of the cordless handset or the volume buttons on the corded base to adjust the listening volume during a call.
- Answering System: The integrated digital answering system records messages. Use the playback controls (PLAY/STOP, REPEAT, SLOW) on the base unit to manage messages. The SLOW button allows for slower playback of messages for better understanding.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your VTech SN5147 phone system, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Clean the phone and handset with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or abrasive materials.
- Battery Care: Ensure the cordless handset is placed in its charging cradle when not in use to maintain battery life. If the phone will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery from the cordless handset.
- Avoid Extreme Conditions: Keep the phone away from excessive heat, direct sunlight, and moisture.
Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your phone system, try the following solutions:
