Setup and Installation

The SunPower flexible solar panel is designed for easy installation. It can be mounted using adhesives or by utilizing the stainless steel grommets located in the panel's corners.

Mounting Options:

  • Adhesive Mounting: For a flush and secure installation on flat or slightly curved surfaces, high-strength marine-grade or outdoor-rated adhesives can be used. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application.
  • Grommet Mounting: The panel features four reinforced grommets, one in each corner. These can be used with screws, bolts, or tie-downs for a removable or semi-permanent installation.

Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and connected to a compatible charge controller and battery system, your SunPower solar panel will begin generating electricity when exposed to sunlight. The panel converts sunlight directly into DC (Direct Current) electricity.

Optimal Performance:

  • Sunlight Exposure: For maximum power output, ensure the panel is positioned to receive direct, unobstructed sunlight throughout the day. Shading, even partial, can significantly reduce efficiency.
  • Angle: Orient the panel towards the sun. In most applications, a slight tilt towards the sun's path will yield better results than a completely flat orientation.
  • Temperature: While solar panels operate in various temperatures, extreme heat can slightly reduce efficiency. Ensure adequate ventilation around the panel if possible.

The panel is designed to be highly efficient, even in less than ideal conditions, thanks to its Maxeon cells. However, consistent direct sunlight is key to achieving its rated 50 Watt output.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help ensure the long-term performance and efficiency of your solar panel.

Cleaning:

  • Clean the surface of the panel periodically to remove dust, dirt, leaves, or other debris that may accumulate and obstruct sunlight.
  • Use a soft cloth or sponge with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the panel surface.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry.
  • Clean during cooler parts of the day (early morning or late afternoon) to prevent water spots and thermal shock.

Inspection:

  • Periodically inspect the panel for any signs of physical damage, such as cracks, delamination, or discoloration.
  • Check the electrical connections (MC4 connectors and wiring) for corrosion, loose connections, or damage. Ensure they are securely fastened.
  • Verify that mounting points are secure and free from wear.

If any significant damage is observed, consult a qualified technician for repair or replacement.

Troubleshooting

If your solar panel is not performing as expected, consider the following common issues and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Low or No Power Output
  • Insufficient sunlight (shading, cloudy weather)
  • Dirty panel surface
  • Loose or corroded electrical connections
  • Faulty charge controller or battery
  • Panel damage
  • Ensure panel is in direct sunlight and free from obstructions.
  • Clean the panel surface as per maintenance instructions.
  • Check all MC4 connections and wiring for secure fit and corrosion.
  • Test charge controller and battery independently.
  • Inspect panel for visible damage. If damaged, contact support.
Panel Not Charging Battery
  • Incorrect wiring polarity
  • Charge controller settings incorrect
  • Battery is already full
  • Verify positive and negative connections are correct.
  • Consult charge controller manual for proper settings.
  • Check battery charge level.

For issues not resolved by the above steps, or for any concerns regarding electrical safety, it is recommended to consult a qualified solar technician.
