Product Overview
The Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU Cooler (Model BK022) is engineered for immense cooling performance with a 250W TDP and virtually inaudible operation. It features two Silent Wings PWM fans with advanced fluid-dynamic bearings and smooth 6-pole motors. The front Silent Wings 3 fan includes a funnel-shaped frame for extremely high air pressure. Seven high-performance copper heat pipes ensure maximal heat conductance, complemented by wave-contoured cooling fins for increased air circulation. Strategic cutouts on the cooling fins enhance RAM compatibility. The cooler boasts a special black coating with ceramic particles for perfect heat transfer and an elegant, brushed aluminum top cover with a diamond-cut finish. It supports an additional 120mm fan (clips included) and offers an easily installable black installation kit that mounts from above.

Setup and Installation
This section provides detailed instructions for installing your Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU Cooler. Ensure your system is powered off and unplugged before beginning installation.
1. Prepare Motherboard
The Dark Rock Pro 4 supports a wide range of Intel and AMD sockets, including Intel 1700, 1200, 2066, 1150, 1151, 1155, 2011(-3) Square ILM, and AMD AM5, AM4. Refer to your motherboard manual for specific socket preparation steps. For AMD sockets, the original backplate is typically retained.

2. Apply Thermal Paste
Apply a small amount of thermal paste (included in the package) to the center of your CPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS). A pea-sized dot is usually sufficient. Do not spread the paste manually; the pressure from the cooler will distribute it evenly.

3. Mount the Cooler
Carefully place the cooler onto the CPU, aligning the mounting screws with the brackets. Use the provided screwdriver to tighten the screws in an alternating diagonal pattern until snug. Do not overtighten.

4. Connect Fan Cables
Connect the PWM fan cables to the CPU_FAN headers on your motherboard. If using the included Y-cable, connect both fans to it, then connect the Y-cable to a single CPU_FAN header.

Operating Instructions
The Silent Wings PWM fans are designed for quiet operation, achieving only 24.3dB(A) at maximum fan speed. The fan speed is automatically controlled by your motherboard's PWM signal, adjusting based on CPU temperature to maintain optimal cooling and noise levels. You can configure fan curves in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings for customized performance.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Periodically clean the heatsink fins and fan blades to prevent dust buildup, which can impede airflow and reduce cooling performance. Use compressed air or a soft brush to gently remove dust. Ensure the fans are not spinning during cleaning.
Thermal Paste Reapplication
Thermal paste typically lasts for several years. If you notice a significant increase in CPU temperatures, consider reapplying thermal paste. Carefully remove the cooler, clean off old thermal paste from both the CPU and cooler base using isopropyl alcohol, and apply new thermal paste as described in the installation section.
Troubleshooting
High CPU Temperatures
- Ensure fans are spinning correctly and connected to the CPU_FAN header.
- Check for proper thermal paste application; reapply if necessary.
- Verify that the cooler is securely mounted and making good contact with the CPU.
- Ensure adequate airflow within your PC case.
Excessive Fan Noise
- Check fan cables for proper connection and ensure no cables are obstructing fan blades.
- Adjust fan curves in your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI settings to reduce fan speed at lower temperatures.
- Ensure fans are clean and free of dust.
