2. Initial Burn-In (Seasoning)

Before cooking food, perform an initial burn-in to remove any manufacturing oils and season the grill. This process helps to create a non-stick surface and ensures optimal performance.

  1. Fill the pellet hopper with food-grade wood pellets.
  2. Plug the grill into a grounded power outlet (or connect to a 12V DC source).
  3. Turn the grill on and set the temperature to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Allow the grill to run at this temperature for at least 45 minutes.
  5. Turn off the grill and let it cool completely.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On and Temperature Setting

Ensure the pellet hopper is filled and the grill is connected to a power source. Press the power button to turn on the grill. Use the digital control panel to set your desired cooking temperature. The grill will automatically feed pellets and ignite to reach the set temperature.

2. Pellet Loading and Management

The pellet hopper is located on the left side of the grill. Lift the hopper lid and fill with wood pellets. Monitor pellet levels during long cooks to avoid running out of fuel. The grill's auger system will automatically feed pellets into the fire pot as needed to maintain temperature.

3. Wi-Fi Connectivity (If Applicable)

Some models of the Davy Crockett grill feature Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to monitor and control your grill remotely via a smartphone application. Refer to the Green Mountain Grills website or the app's instructions for detailed setup procedures for Wi-Fi pairing.

4. Shutting Down the Grill

To turn off the grill, press and hold the power button. The grill will enter a cool-down cycle, which typically takes 10-15 minutes, to safely burn off any remaining pellets in the fire pot and cool down the components. Do not unplug the grill until the cool-down cycle is complete.

Maintenance and Cleaning

1. Ash Removal

Regularly remove ash from the fire pot and the bottom of the grill. Excessive ash can impede airflow and affect performance. Ensure the grill is completely cool before attempting ash removal. Use a shop vacuum or brush to clean out the ash.

2. Cleaning Grill Grates and Grease Tray

After each use, clean the grill grates with a grill brush. Periodically remove and clean the grease tray to prevent grease buildup, which can be a fire hazard. Wash the grease tray with warm, soapy water.

3. Exterior Cleaning and Storage

Wipe down the exterior of the grill with a damp cloth. For long-term storage or protection from the elements, use a grill cover. Ensure the grill is clean and dry before covering.
