1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and efficient operation, setup, and maintenance of your BACOENG 862D+ 2-in-1 Soldering and Hot Air Rework Station. This unit combines a soldering iron and a hot air gun, designed for various electronic repair and rework tasks, including SMD components.

2. Safety Instructions

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the equipment:

  • Ensure the unit is connected to a grounded power outlet (110V).
  • Do not operate the unit in damp or wet conditions.

5. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Placement: Place the main unit on a stable, heat-resistant, and well-ventilated surface. Ensure sufficient clearance around the unit.
  3. Connect Hot Air Gun: Plug the hot air gun handle into its designated port on the main unit. Place the hot air gun into its holder.
  4. Connect Soldering Iron: Plug the soldering iron into its designated receptacle connector on the main unit. Place the soldering iron into its stand.
  5. Power Connection: Connect the main power cord to the unit and then to a grounded 110V AC power outlet.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Hot Air Gun Operation

  1. Power On: Flip the ON/OFF switch for the Hot Air function to 'ON'.
  2. Set Temperature: Use the Temperature Adjustment Knob (Hot Air) to set the desired temperature (range: 100-480°C / 212-896°F). The digital display will show the set temperature.
  3. Set Air Flow: Adjust the Air Flow Adjustment Knob to control the air volume. A spiral airflow is created for large nozzles, while a strong rotating wind is generated for small nozzles.
  4. Sensor Switch: The hot air gun handle is equipped with a sensor switch. When you pick up the handle, the system will automatically activate and heat to the set temperature.
  5. Automatic Cool-down: When the hot air gun is placed back into its holder, the system enters standby mode. The heating element will turn off, and the fan will continue to blow air until the nozzle cools down to a safe temperature (below 100°C) before shutting off completely. This extends the heater's lifespan.
  6. Nozzle Selection: Choose an appropriate nozzle (Φ3, Φ5, Φ7, Φ10mm) for your application.

6.2. Soldering Iron Operation

  1. Power On: Flip the ON/OFF switch for the Soldering function to 'ON'.
  2. Set Temperature: Use the Temperature Adjustment Knob (Soldering) to set the desired temperature. The digital display will show the set temperature. The iron heats up quickly, typically reaching operating temperature in under a minute.
  3. Tip Selection: Select the appropriate soldering tip (900M-T-I, B, K, 3C, 4D) for your task.
  4. Tinning the Tip: Before first use and periodically during use, tin the soldering iron tip by applying a small amount of solder to its heated surface. This helps prevent oxidation and improves heat transfer.
  5. Soldering: Apply the heated, tinned tip to the joint to be soldered, then feed solder into the joint. Remove the solder, then the iron, allowing the joint to cool naturally.
  6. Return to Stand: Always return the soldering iron to its stand when not in use to prevent accidental burns and keep the tip clean.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Soldering Iron Tip and Heating Core Replacement

To replace the soldering iron tip or heating core:

  1. Ensure the soldering iron is cool and disconnected from the main unit.
  2. Unscrew the nut (1) and remove the steel tube (2).
  3. Carefully pull out the old tip (3).
  4. To replace the heating core (6), unscrew the plastic cap (4) and gently pull out the heating core element (6) along with the plastic cap (4).
  5. Carefully remember the connection of the spring (5).
  6. The iron core from the circuit board (7) wiring must be connected correctly. Note the order of the iron core wire connection.
  7. Insert the new heating core and/or tip, then reassemble in reverse order.

7.2. General Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the soldering iron tip with a damp sponge or brass wool to remove excess solder and oxidation.
  • Keep the hot air gun nozzle free of debris.
  • Wipe the main unit and tools with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

8. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Unit does not power on. No power supply; power switch off; faulty power cord. Check power connection and outlet. Ensure both ON/OFF switches are engaged. Inspect power cord for damage.
Hot air gun not heating or blowing. Hot air gun not properly connected; temperature set too low; sensor switch not activated (gun not picked up). Ensure hot air gun is securely plugged in. Increase temperature setting. Pick up the hot air gun from its holder to activate.
Hot air gun displays "E6" error. Overheat error. Place the hot air gun back into its holder and allow it to cool down. If the error persists after cooling, disconnect power and contact support.
Soldering iron not heating. Soldering iron not properly connected; temperature set too low; faulty heating core. Ensure soldering iron is securely plugged in. Increase temperature setting. Replace the heating core if necessary (refer to Section 7.1).
Soldering iron tips melting or degrading quickly. Excessively high temperature; prolonged use at high temperatures; poor quality tips; lack of tinning. Use appropriate temperatures for your solder. Ensure tips are properly tinned. Consider using higher quality replacement tips.
