Adjusting Eyecups

Twist the eyecups up or down to achieve a full field of view without vignetting (dark shadows around the edges). Users wearing eyeglasses typically keep the eyecups fully down, while those without eyeglasses may prefer them fully extended or at an intermediate position.

Adjusting Interpupillary Distance

Hold the binoculars with both hands and look through them. Adjust the hinge between the two barrels until you see a single, clear circular field of view. This sets the interpupillary distance to match the spacing of your eyes.

Focusing

  1. Choose an object approximately 20 yards (18 meters) away.
  2. Cover the right objective lens (front lens) with your hand.
  3. Look through the left eyepiece and rotate the center focus wheel until the object is sharp and clear.
  4. Now, cover the left objective lens.
  5. Look through the right eyepiece and adjust the diopter ring (located on the right eyepiece) until the object is sharp and clear. Note: The diopter ring may have a locking mechanism; if so, unlock it before adjusting and lock it afterward.
  6. Your binoculars are now set for your eyes. For subsequent use, only the center focus wheel will be needed to adjust focus for different distances.

Attaching the Neck Strap and Harness

Thread the comfort neck strap through the strap attachments on the binocular body. For extended carry and added protection, utilize the GlassPak Binocular Harness by attaching the harness straps to the binocular's strap attachments as per the harness instructions.

Tripod Mounting

The binoculars are equipped with a tripod adapter socket, typically located under a cap at the front hinge. Remove the cap and screw in a compatible tripod adapter (sold separately) to mount the binoculars on a tripod for stable viewing.

Operating

General Use

Once properly set up, hold the binoculars steady and look through the eyepieces. Use the center focus wheel to bring distant objects into sharp focus. The 12x magnification provides significant detail, while the 50mm objective lenses gather ample light for bright images, even in challenging light conditions.

Low Light Performance

The large 50mm objective lenses and HD optical system contribute to excellent light transmission, enhancing viewing clarity and brightness during dawn, dusk, or in heavily shaded areas.

Weather Resistance

These binoculars are designed with argon purging and O-ring seals, making them waterproof and fogproof. This ensures reliable performance in various weather conditions, preventing internal fogging and moisture intrusion.

Maintenance

Cleaning Lenses

For optimal viewing, keep the lenses clean. Begin by blowing off any loose dust or debris. Use a soft brush or a clean microfiber cloth specifically designed for optics. For smudges or fingerprints, apply a small amount of lens cleaning fluid to the cloth, not directly to the lens, and gently wipe in a circular motion. The Armortek coating provides ultra-hard, scratch-resistant protection to the exterior lenses.

Cleaning the Body

Wipe the rubber armored body with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Storage

When not in use, store the binoculars in a dry, cool place, preferably in their protective case or the GlassPak harness. Ensure lens covers are in place to protect the optics from dust and scratches.

Troubleshooting

Unclear Image

  • Ensure both the center focus wheel and the diopter are correctly adjusted for your eyes (refer to "Focusing" in the Setup section).
  • Check if lenses are clean. Dust, smudges, or condensation can obscure the view.

Dark Edges / Vignetting

  • Adjust the twist-up eyecups to the correct position for your eyes, especially if you wear eyeglasses.
  • Ensure the interpupillary distance is correctly set.

Fogging Inside Lenses

The Viper HD binoculars are argon purged and O-ring sealed to prevent internal fogging. If internal fogging occurs, it may indicate a seal compromise. Please contact customer support for assistance.
