Osmo Coding Awbie Instruction Manual

Model: Coding Awbie

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting your Osmo Coding Awbie game. Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure proper functionality and an optimal learning experience.

2. Setup

2.1 Unboxing and Components

Carefully unbox your Osmo Coding Awbie kit. Verify that all components are present:

  • Osmo Base and Reflector (required, sold separately with Osmo Starter Kits)
  • Coding Awbie game pieces (physical blocks)
  • Compatible iPad or Fire tablet

Note: The Osmo Base and Reflector are fundamental for all Osmo games and are not included with the Coding Awbie game itself.

2.2 Installing the Osmo App

  1. Download the free Osmo app from the Apple App Store (for iPad) or Amazon Appstore (for Fire tablets).
  2. Open the Osmo app and follow the on-screen instructions to create an Osmo account or log in.
  3. Ensure your device's camera and microphone permissions are granted to the Osmo app.

2.3 Assembling the Osmo Base and Reflector

Place your iPad or Fire tablet into the Osmo Base. Attach the red reflector over the device's camera. The reflector allows the Osmo system to "see" the physical game pieces placed in front of the screen.

3.2 Understanding Coding Blocks

Osmo Coding Awbie uses physical blocks to represent coding commands. Each block has a specific function:

  • Walk: Moves Awbie forward.
  • Jump: Makes Awbie jump.
  • Grab: Allows Awbie to pick up items.
  • Loop: Repeats a sequence of commands.
  • If/Else: Introduces conditional logic.

3.3 Creating Code Sequences

Connect the physical coding blocks in a sequence on your play mat. The Osmo app will recognize the sequence and display Awbie's corresponding actions on screen. Experiment with different combinations to guide Awbie through various challenges.

For detailed tutorials and gameplay tips, refer to the in-game help section or the official Osmo website.
