Setup
1. Attaching the Reel to a Fishing Rod
- Align the reel foot with the reel seat on your fishing rod.
- Tighten the reel seat's locking nut until the reel is securely fastened and does not wobble. Ensure it is firm but do not overtighten.
2. Spooling Fishing Line
- Open the side plate of the reel to access the spool.
- Tie the fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the side plate.
- Engage the reel's retrieve mechanism.
- Hold the line under slight tension and begin winding the line onto the spool evenly. Avoid overfilling or underfilling the spool. The line capacity for 16 lb line is 125 m, and for 20 lb line is 100 m.

3. Adjusting the Brake System
The Rokisani Power Shooter features a magnetic brake system to control spool rotation during casting and prevent backlash.
- Locate the magnetic brake adjustment knob on the side of the reel (often marked with numbers or symbols).
- Start with a higher brake setting (more resistance) for beginners or when casting into the wind.
- Gradually reduce the brake setting as you gain experience and confidence, or when casting lighter lures.

4. Adjusting the Drag System
The drag system controls the amount of resistance the line experiences when a fish pulls on it, preventing line breakage. The maximum drag force is 7 kg.
- The drag star is located next to the handle. Turn it clockwise to increase drag tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
- Set the drag to approximately 25-30% of your line's breaking strength. Test the drag by pulling line directly from the spool.

Operating the Reel
1. Casting
- Press the thumb bar to disengage the spool.
- Hold the lure at the desired distance from the rod tip.
- Make a smooth casting motion, releasing your thumb from the spool as the rod moves forward.
- Apply light thumb pressure to the spool as the lure approaches the target to slow it down and prevent backlash.
- Engage the reel by turning the handle slightly after the lure hits the water.
2. Retrieving
Turn the handle clockwise to retrieve the line. The gear ratio of 8.0:1 provides a fast retrieve, winding approximately 88 cm of line per handle turn. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure and fishing technique.

3. Fighting a Fish
- Allow the drag system to work by letting the fish pull line when it runs.
- Pump the rod up and reel down to gain line.
- Avoid overtightening the drag during a fight, as this can break the line or pull the hook.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
- After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe down the exterior with a soft cloth to remove dirt and salt residue.
- Use a cotton swab to clean hard-to-reach areas.
2. Lubrication
- Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle knobs, spool shaft, and level wind mechanism.
- Apply reel grease to the main gears if you disassemble the reel for deeper cleaning. Refer to a detailed service diagram if performing internal maintenance.
3. Storage
- Store the reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Loosen the drag completely before storing to prevent compression of the drag washers.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Backlash (Bird's Nest) | Brake system set too low, thumb not controlling spool, improper casting technique. | Increase magnetic brake setting. Practice thumb control. Improve casting form. |
| Stiff or Grinding Retrieve | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears, damaged components. | Clean and lubricate the reel. Inspect for damage. If problem persists, seek professional service. |
| Drag Slipping or Inconsistent | Drag washers are dry, worn, or contaminated. | Clean and re-grease drag washers (use specialized drag grease). Replace worn washers if necessary. |
| Line Not Laying Evenly | Level wind mechanism obstructed or damaged, improper line tension during spooling. | Clean level wind. Ensure proper line tension when spooling. |
