Installation Guide
Pre-Installation Checks
- Confirm the kit is correct for your Kia Sportage (2017-2022).
- Inspect all components for any shipping damage or manufacturing defects.
- Gather all necessary tools, including a torque wrench, jack, jack stands, lug wrench, brake cleaner, and a C-clamp or brake caliper piston tool.
Rotor Orientation
Drilled and slotted rotors are side-specific to ensure proper cooling and debris evacuation. If your rotors are not explicitly labeled 'Front Pass Side' or 'Front Driver Side', follow the slot direction. When installed correctly, the slots on the top side of the rotor should point towards the rear of the vehicle.

Step-by-Step Installation
- Prepare Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels. Jack up the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands. Remove the front wheels.
- Remove Old Components: Remove the caliper bolts and carefully slide the caliper off the rotor. Support the caliper to avoid stressing the brake hose. Remove the old brake pads and the old rotor.
- Clean Hub: Thoroughly clean the wheel hub surface to ensure the new rotor sits flush. Use a wire brush and brake cleaner to remove any rust or debris.
- Install New Rotor: Place the new Power Stop drilled and slotted rotor onto the wheel studs, ensuring it is seated correctly.
- Prepare Caliper: Use a C-clamp or brake caliper piston tool to compress the caliper piston(s) back into the caliper body.
- Install New Pads and Hardware: Apply a thin layer of the provided high-performance ceramic brake lubricant to the back of the new carbon-fiber ceramic brake pads and to the contact points of the new stainless steel installation hardware. Install the new hardware clips into the caliper bracket. Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
- Reassemble: Carefully slide the caliper back over the new pads and rotor. Reinstall and torque the caliper bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
- Repeat for Other Side: Repeat the process for the other front wheel.
- Bleed Brakes (If Necessary): If the brake lines were opened or air entered the system, bleed the brakes according to your vehicle's service manual.
- Final Steps: Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications. Lower the vehicle.

Operating Instructions
Brake Break-In Procedure
Proper break-in (bedding-in) of new brake pads and rotors is crucial for optimal performance and longevity. Follow these steps:
- Perform 5-6 moderate stops from 40 mph down to 10 mph. Avoid coming to a complete stop.
- Allow the brakes to cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Perform 2-3 hard stops from 50 mph down to 10 mph. Again, avoid coming to a complete stop.
- Allow the brakes to cool completely for at least 30 minutes before normal driving.
During the break-in period, avoid heavy braking, sudden stops, and prolonged braking (e.g., riding the brakes down a long hill). This process transfers a thin layer of pad material to the rotor surface, ensuring consistent friction and preventing premature wear or noise.

Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance are vital for the safety and performance of your braking system.
- Routine Inspection: Periodically inspect brake pads for wear and rotors for cracks, excessive scoring, or warping. Check brake fluid levels and condition.
- Cleaning: Use brake cleaner to remove dust and debris from calipers, pads, and rotors during tire rotations or other service.
- Hardware: Ensure all brake hardware is clean and properly lubricated at service intervals.
- Replacement: Replace brake pads when they reach their minimum thickness. Rotors should be replaced if they fall below minimum thickness specifications or show signs of severe damage.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you experience any issues with your braking system, consult this section. For persistent problems, seek professional automotive service.
- Brake Noise (Squealing/Grinding): Ensure proper break-in procedure was followed. Check for correct installation of anti-rattle clips and shims. Verify that brake lubricant was applied to appropriate contact points. Grinding usually indicates severely worn pads or a foreign object.
- Reduced Braking Performance: Could be due to improper break-in, air in the brake lines, or contaminated brake fluid. Inspect for leaks.
- Vibration/Pulsation: Often caused by warped rotors or uneven pad material transfer. Ensure hub is clean and rotor is properly seated. Re-bedding the brakes may resolve minor issues.
- Excessive Brake Dust: While Z23 pads are low-dust, some dust is normal. If dust is excessive, ensure proper break-in and check for caliper issues.
