Setup

Before performing a blood glucose test, ensure you have a ReliOn 30 Gauge Ultra-Thin Lancet, a compatible lancing device (sold separately), and a blood glucose meter with test strips.

1. Wash Hands: Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and warm water. Dry them completely.
2. Prepare Lancing Device: Remove the cap from your lancing device according to its specific instructions.
3. Insert Lancet: Insert a new, sterile ReliOn 30 Gauge Ultra-Thin Lancet firmly into the lancing device.
4. Remove Protective Disk: Twist off the protective disk from the lancet and save it for safe disposal after use. Do not discard the protective disk yet.
5. Replace Lancing Device Cap: Carefully replace the cap on your lancing device.
6. Adjust Depth Setting: Set the penetration depth on your lancing device to an appropriate level. Start with a shallower setting and adjust deeper if needed to obtain a sufficient blood sample.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to obtain a blood sample for glucose testing:

1. Select Puncture Site: Choose a clean, dry area on your fingertip, preferably on the side, or an alternate site as recommended by your healthcare professional and lancing device instructions.
2. Position Lancing Device: Place the lancing device firmly against the chosen puncture site.
3. Activate Lancing Device: Press the release button on your lancing device to prick the skin.
4. Obtain Blood Sample: Gently squeeze the area around the puncture site to form a small drop of blood. Avoid excessive squeezing, which can dilute the sample.
5. Apply Blood to Test Strip: Touch the blood drop to the designated area on your blood glucose test strip, allowing it to draw in the sample. Follow your blood glucose meter's instructions for testing.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance primarily involves the safe disposal of used lancets.

• Recap Lancet: After obtaining your blood sample, carefully remove the lancing device cap. Place the protective disk (saved from step 4 of Setup) back onto the exposed lancet tip.
• Dispose Safely: Immediately dispose of the used, recapped lancet into an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container. If a sharps container is not available, use a heavy-duty plastic container (e.g., laundry detergent bottle) with a tight-fitting lid, clearly labeled "SHARPS – DO NOT RECYCLE."
• Do Not Reuse: Never attempt to clean or sterilize a used lancet for reuse.
