Setup Guide

1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection

Carefully unpack all components and verify that all items are present. The package typically includes:

  • Lorex LNR6100 Series NVR
  • Four LNB8005 4K Bullet IP Cameras
  • Power adapter for NVR
  • USB Mouse
  • Ethernet cable
  • Four 60ft CAT-5E cables for cameras
  • Quick Start Guide (not included in this manual)

Inspect all components for any signs of damage. If any items are missing or damaged, contact Lorex support immediately.

2. NVR Connection

  1. Connect the Mouse: Plug the included USB mouse into any available USB port on the NVR.
  2. Connect to a Monitor: Connect the NVR to a monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable (not included). Ensure the monitor is set to the correct input source.
  3. Connect to Network: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the NVR's LAN port and the other end to your router or network switch. This enables remote viewing and firmware updates.
  4. Connect Power: Plug the NVR's power adapter into the NVR's power input, then plug the adapter into a power outlet. The NVR will power on automatically.

3. Camera Installation and Connection

Before permanent installation, test the cameras by connecting them directly to the NVR's PoE ports.

  1. Connect Cameras: Connect one end of the provided CAT-5E Ethernet cable to a camera's Ethernet port and the other end to one of the NVR's PoE ports (labeled 1-8). The NVR will automatically detect and power the camera.
  2. Mounting Location: Choose a mounting location for each camera that provides the desired viewing angle and is within the cable length. Ensure the location is secure and provides protection from direct impact. The cameras are weatherproof (IP66) but consider sheltered locations for longevity.
  3. Secure Mounting: Use appropriate screws and anchors (not included) to securely mount the camera to a wall or ceiling. Adjust the camera's angle for optimal coverage.

Operating Instructions

1. Initial Setup Wizard

Upon first power-on, the NVR will guide you through an initial setup wizard. Follow the on-screen prompts to:

  • Set up an administrator password.
  • Configure date and time settings.
  • Set up network parameters (DHCP is usually sufficient).
  • Format the hard drive (if prompted, this will erase all data).

2. Live View and Recording

Once the setup is complete, the NVR will display the live view from all connected cameras. The system is configured for continuous recording by default. You can adjust recording schedules, motion detection settings, and other parameters through the NVR's main menu, accessible via the USB mouse.

  • Accessing Menus: Right-click anywhere on the live view screen to bring up the main menu.
  • Recording Modes: Configure continuous, motion-detection, or scheduled recording for each camera.
  • Motion Detection: Set up motion detection zones and sensitivity for specific areas within the camera's view.

3. Playback and Backup

To review recorded footage:

  1. From the main menu, select "Playback".
  2. Choose the desired date and camera channel.
  3. Use the timeline to navigate through recorded events.

To back up footage, connect a USB flash drive to the NVR's USB port and use the "Backup" option from the main menu.

4. Remote Access (Lorex Cloud™ / Lorex Secure™)

For remote viewing and management, download the Lorex Cloud™ (for PC/Mac) or Lorex Secure™ (for iOS/Android) application.

  1. Download App: Search for "Lorex Cloud" or "Lorex Secure" in your device's app store or on the Lorex website.
  2. Create Account: Register for a Lorex account if you don't have one.
  3. Add Device: Follow the in-app instructions to add your NVR using its device ID (usually found on a sticker on the NVR or in the NVR's network settings).
  4. Live View & Playback: Once connected, you can view live feeds, play back recordings, and receive push notifications on your mobile device.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning Cameras: Periodically clean the camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or water spots that may affect image quality. Do not use harsh chemicals.
  • NVR Ventilation: Ensure the NVR is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the Lorex website for firmware updates for your NVR and cameras. Firmware updates can improve performance, add features, and address security vulnerabilities. Follow the instructions provided by Lorex for safe updating.
  • Hard Drive Health: The NVR's hard drive is crucial for recording. Monitor its health through the NVR's system settings. Consider backing up critical footage regularly.
