Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Read and understand all instructions before use. This tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection system that automatically cuts off power to extend tool and battery life. The tool will automatically stop during operation if the tool or battery is placed under one of the following conditions:
- Overload Protection: If the tool draws an abnormally high current, the tool automatically stops and the main power lamp blinks in green. Turn the tool off and stop the application that caused the tool to become overloaded. Then turn the tool on to restart.
- Overheat Protection: When the tool or battery is overheated, the tool stops automatically and the main power lamp lights up in red. Let the tool and battery cool before turning the tool on again. In high temperature environments, overheat protection is likely to work and the tool stops automatically.
- Overdischarge Protection: When the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stops automatically and the main power lamp blinks in red. Remove the battery from the tool and charge the battery.
Always turn off the main power switch when not in use. To avoid unintentional start-up, the main power switch will automatically shut down when the switch trigger is not pulled for a certain period after the main power switch is turned on.

Setup
Proper assembly is crucial for safe and efficient operation. Follow these steps to attach the pole saw head to a compatible Makita Couple Shaft Power Head.
- Prepare the Power Head: Ensure the power head is turned off and the battery is removed for safety.
- Remove Protective Cap: The pole saw head comes with a black protective cap on the shaft. Remove this cap before attaching to the power head.
- Loosen Attachment Bolts: On the power head, locate the attachment bolts (typically two hex bolts). Use the provided Allen key to loosen these bolts. Do not remove them completely, just loosen enough for the attachment to slide in.
- Align and Insert: Align the shaft of the pole saw attachment with the opening on the power head. Ensure the red indicator on the upper side of the button is not visible. Insert the attachment all the way until it locks into place with a little click.
- Tighten Attachment Bolts: Once the attachment is securely in place, tighten the hex bolts firmly using the Allen key.
- Install Chain and Guide Bar: If not already installed, refer to the manual for detailed instructions on installing the chain and guide bar. Ensure the chain is oriented correctly and tensioned appropriately.
- Fill Bar Oil Tank: Fill the translucent bar oil tank with the provided bar oil. Ensure the tank is not overfilled.

Operating Instructions
Before operating, ensure the pole saw is correctly assembled, the chain is properly tensioned, and the bar oil tank is filled. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
- Power On: Press the main power switch until the main power lamp lights up in green for normal mode. For Torque Boost mode, press and hold the main power switch for a few seconds until the mode indicator lights up in green.
- Grip and Balance: Hold the pole saw firmly with both hands. Use the shoulder harness (if included) to help distribute the weight and maintain balance, especially when extending the pole.
- Cutting Technique: Start the saw before making contact with the branch. Allow the chain to reach full speed. Make smooth, controlled cuts. Avoid forcing the saw through branches.
- Branch Hook: Use the integrated branch hook for pulling trimmed branches from trees, enhancing efficiency and safety.
- Adjusting Pole Length: To extend or shorten the pole, loosen the lock ring counterclockwise, then adjust the length of the pipe, and then tighten the ring by turning the lock ring clockwise.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your pole saw attachment.
- Chain Oiling: Regularly check the bar oil tank and refill as needed. The translucent tank allows for easy monitoring.
- Chain Tension: Periodically check and adjust the chain tension. A properly tensioned chain should move freely but not sag. Refer to the manual for specific adjustment procedures.
- Chain Sharpening: Keep the chain sharp for efficient cutting. Use the provided file guide and file to sharpen the chain as needed.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the saw head and bar to remove debris, sawdust, and resin buildup. This prevents clogging and ensures smooth operation.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your pole saw, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Saw Stops During Operation: Check the main power lamp. If it's blinking green, the tool might be overloaded. If it's red, the tool or battery might be overheated or the battery capacity is low. Allow cooling or recharge the battery.
- Poor Cutting Performance: Ensure the chain is sharp and properly tensioned. Check the bar oil level.
- Chain Derailment: This can occur if the chain tension is too loose or if the saw is forced during cutting. Ensure proper tension and cutting technique.
