Setup Instructions
1. Site Selection and Ground Preparation
Choose a flat, level area in your backyard for pool installation. The ground must be level within an inch to prevent warping of supports and bowing of sides. Clear the area of any sharp objects, rocks, or debris that could puncture the liner. It is recommended to place concrete pavers under each leg support for added stability and leveling.

3. Filter Pump Assembly and Installation
The SFX1500 SkimmerPlus Filter Pump is crucial for maintaining water clarity. Refer to the video below for a visual guide on its assembly and installation.
Video: Detailed instructions for assembling and installing the Summer Waves SkimmerPlus Filter Pump. This video covers setting up the return fitting, assembling the skimmer, connecting hoses, and operating the GFCI outlet.
Key Steps from Video:
- Return Fitting Setup: Attach the gasket to the return fitting. From inside the pool, insert the fitting with the gasket through the pool wall. On the outside, place the thrust washer and hand-tighten the fitting nut until flush with the liner wall. From inside the pool, attach the return diverter. No tools are required for this step.
- Skimmer Assembly: Locate the pre-assembled SkimmerPlus filter. Remove the top cover and the locking ring from the skimmer. Ensure the gasket on the skimmer is in place and the key is properly seated. From outside the pool, slide the skimmer opening through the liner. From inside the pool, screw the seal ring onto the skimmer opening until tight. Attach the weir to the skimmer opening and replace the top cover.
- Hose Connection: Attach one end of the hose to the outlet of the skimmer and the other end to the return fitting.

4. Filling the Pool
Once the pool structure and filter system are assembled, you are ready to fill the pool. Fill the pool to the water level line indicated on the inside of the skimmer opening (between minimum and maximum marks). Do not overfill the pool, as this could cause water to pour out of the top of the skimmer.
5. Powering the Pump
Ensure your hands and the ground you are standing on are dry. Plug the GFCI directly into a suitable outdoor outlet. The use of an extension cord is not recommended. Press the RESET button on the GFCI to engage the pump. To shut off the pump, simply press the TEST button.
Operating Instructions
Once the pool is filled and the pump is powered, adjust the return diverter down and away from the skimmer opening to ensure proper water circulation. The filter pump should run daily to keep the water clean. Consult your local pool supply store for recommended daily run times based on pool size and usage.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for a clean and safe swimming environment.
1. Filter Cartridge Care
The filter cartridge should be cleaned regularly (daily or every other day depending on usage) by rinsing it with a garden hose. Replace the filter cartridge every two weeks or sooner if it remains dirty after cleaning. Always disconnect the pump before accessing the filter cartridge.
2. Water Chemistry
Test your pool water regularly for pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels. Adjust chemicals as needed to maintain balanced water. Refer to a reputable pool chemical guide for specific instructions and dosages.
3. Cleaning the Pool
Use a pool skimmer net to remove debris from the water surface. A pool vacuum can be used to clean the bottom of the pool. The included pool cover should be used when the pool is not in use to keep out debris and reduce evaporation.

4. Winterization
Before freezing temperatures arrive, properly winterize your pool to prevent damage. This typically involves draining the pool, cleaning the liner, and disassembling the filter pump and other accessories for storage in a dry, protected area.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your pool or filter pump, refer to the detailed troubleshooting section in the full owner's manual. Common issues include:
- Pump not operating: Check GFCI, power connection, and ensure no blockages.
- Poor water circulation: Check for clogged filter cartridge, proper diverter adjustment, or air in the system.
- Cloudy water: Indicates insufficient filtration, improper chemical balance, or high debris load.
