1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, setup, and maintenance of your JUKI DDL8700H High-Speed Lock-Stitch Sewing Machine. 3. Setup

3.1 Initial Assembly

As this is a machine head only, it requires installation onto a compatible industrial sewing machine table with a motor. Refer to the table and motor manufacturer's instructions for their specific installation procedures.

Once the machine head is securely mounted, install the following accessories:

• Thread Stand: Assemble and attach the thread stand to the designated location on the table.
• Bobbin Winder: Mount the bobbin winder according to the instructions provided with the winder.
• Oil Pan/Knee Lifter: Install the oil pan beneath the machine head and connect the knee lifter mechanism.

3.2 Oiling the Machine

The JUKI DDL8700H features auto-lubrication for the hook. However, for initial setup and to ensure proper function, fill the oil pan with the provided machine oil to the indicated level. Regularly check the oil level and replenish as needed.

3.3 Needle Installation

1. Turn the handwheel to raise the needle bar to its highest position.
2. Loosen the needle clamp screw.
3. Insert a new needle (type DB×1, size #19 to #23 recommended for heavy materials) with the long groove facing the left.
4. Push the needle up as far as it will go.
5. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Threading the Machine Head

Follow these steps to thread the upper thread:

1. Place the thread spool on the thread stand.
2. Guide the thread through the upper thread guides.
3. Pass the thread through the tension discs.
4. Thread the take-up lever from right to left.
5. Guide the thread through the lower thread guides.
6. Thread the needle from front to back.

4.2 Bobbin Winding

1. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
2. Guide the thread from the spool through the bobbin winder tension disc.
3. Wrap the thread a few times around the bobbin.
4. Engage the bobbin winder and start the machine. The bobbin will wind automatically.
5. Disengage the winder once the bobbin is full.

4.3 Inserting the Bobbin

1. Open the bobbin case cover.
2. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise).
3. Pull the thread through the tension spring slot on the bobbin case.
4. Insert the bobbin case into the shuttle hook.
5. Close the bobbin case cover.

4.4 Adjusting Stitch Length

The stitch length can be adjusted up to a maximum of 5mm using the stitch length dial, typically located on the front of the machine head. Rotate the dial to select the desired stitch length.

4.5 Adjusting Reverse Feed

The machine features an adjustable reverse feed mechanism, allowing for back-tacking at the beginning and end of seams to secure stitches. Engage the reverse feed lever or button as needed during sewing.

4.6 Presser Foot Lift

The presser foot can be lifted manually or using the knee lifter. The maximum lift of the presser foot is 13mm, accommodating thick materials. For standard operation, the lift is 5.5mm.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining machine performance. Use a soft brush to remove lint and dust from the feed dogs, bobbin area, and tension discs. Periodically remove the needle plate to clean underneath.

5.2 Lubrication

The DDL8700H features an auto-lubrication system for the hook. Ensure the oil pan always contains oil at the correct level. For other moving parts, consult a qualified technician for periodic lubrication.

5.3 Needle Replacement

Replace needles frequently, especially when sewing heavy or dense materials, or if the needle shows signs of bending or dullness. A dull or bent needle can cause skipped stitches, thread breakage, and damage to fabric.

• Uneven Stitches: Adjust upper and lower thread tension, ensure consistent fabric feeding, check for proper needle and thread combination.
• Machine Not Starting: Ensure power is connected, motor is engaged, and safety switches are not activated.
