3. Setup Guide
This section outlines the general steps for setting up your Juki DDL-8700 machine head. Ensure you have a compatible industrial sewing machine table and motor before proceeding.
3.1 Machine Head Installation
Carefully place the Juki DDL-8700 machine head into the designated opening on your industrial sewing machine table. Secure it according to the table manufacturer's instructions. Ensure the machine is level and stable.

3.2 Motor and Pedal Connection
Connect the motor to the machine head and the foot pedal according to the motor and table assembly instructions. The DDL-8700 is designed to work with an external motor (not included). Ensure all electrical connections are secure and follow local electrical safety guidelines.
3.3 Thread Spool Setup
Place your thread spools on the designated thread stands. Guide the thread through the machine's tension discs and take-up lever, following the threading path indicated in your machine's specific threading diagram. Proper threading is crucial for consistent stitch quality.
3.4 Needle Installation
Install the correct needle type (9-18 DBX1 (16x231) up to size 19) into the needle bar, ensuring it is fully inserted and oriented correctly before tightening the needle clamp screw.
3.5 Adjusting Table Height and Pedal Tilt
The height of the work surface and the tilt of the lower pedal can be adjusted to suit your ergonomic preferences. Refer to your table's manual for specific adjustment mechanisms. Proper ergonomic setup can significantly reduce operator fatigue.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Powering On/Off
Locate the power switch, typically on the table or motor unit, and flip it to the 'ON' position. The machine is designed for quiet operation, even with the motor running.
4.2 Adjusting Stitch Length
The stitch length can be adjusted using the stitch dial located on the machine head. Rotate the dial to select the desired stitch length, up to a maximum of 5mm. For easier adjustment, press the lever adjacent to the dial while turning.

4.3 Presser Foot Operation
The presser foot can be lifted by hand (max. 5.5mm) or by using the knee lift lever (max. 13mm). The higher lift capacity allows for easier placement and removal of thicker materials.

4.4 Reverse Stitching
To perform reverse stitching (backtack), depress the wide lever located on the machine head. This is useful for securing seams at the beginning and end of a stitch line.
4.5 Sewing Operation
With the material placed under the presser foot, gently press the foot pedal to begin sewing. The machine's motor speed can be regulated via a dial on the motor unit, allowing for precise control, especially for beginners. The throat plate includes marker grooves to assist with maintaining consistent seam allowances.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Lubrication
The Juki DDL-8700 features a fully automatic lubrication system. Regularly check the oil level in the oil pan and replenish as needed with appropriate industrial sewing machine oil. Refer to the machine's specific lubrication points and schedule in the detailed service manual.
5.2 Cleaning
Regularly clean lint and dust from the bobbin case, feed dog area, and under the needle plate. Use a small brush or vacuum cleaner designed for electronics. Keeping these areas clean prevents thread jams and ensures smooth operation.
