5. Product Overview
The DROK Digital Multimeter features an LCD display and two control buttons. The Hall sensor is a separate component that measures current non-invasively.
Figure 5.1: Front view of the DROK Digital Multimeter display with labels for remaining capacity (battery icon), remaining capacity in AH, Menu/Save key, positive and negative power display (W), positive and negative accumulated electric energy display (WH), Backlight/+ key, voltage (V), and current (A).
Figure 5.2: The Hall current sensor, which measures current by passing the main power wire through its central opening. The sensor has a diameter of 20mm (0.79 inches).
Figure 5.3: Dimensions of the DROK Digital Multimeter, showing a length of 79mm, width of 42mm, and depth of 25mm for the main body, with a panel cutout size of 76.0mm x 39.5mm.
6. Setup and Installation
The multimeter supports two main wiring configurations:
6.1. 2-Wire System Connection
In this configuration, the meter's power supply is taken directly from the circuit being measured. This is suitable when the measured voltage is within the meter's power supply range (DC 5-90V).
Figure 6.1: Wiring diagram for a 2-wire system. The red wire connects to the positive terminal of the battery, and the black wire connects to the negative terminal. The yellow wire connects to the positive terminal of the battery. The main current-carrying wire passes through the Hall sensor. The triangle icon on the transformer will point to the load's direction when measuring the positive lead.
- Connect the red wire of the meter to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
- Connect the black wire of the meter to the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
- Connect the yellow wire of the meter to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.
- Pass the main current-carrying wire (positive lead) through the center hole of the Hall current sensor. Ensure the triangle icon on the sensor points towards the load or controller.
6.2. 3-Wire System Connection
This configuration uses a separate power supply for the meter, allowing it to measure voltages outside its own operating voltage range (e.g., above 90V DC, up to 300V DC).
Figure 6.2: Wiring diagram for a 3-wire system. A separate DC 5-100V power supply is used for the meter (red and black wires). The yellow wire connects to the positive terminal of the battery being measured. The main current-carrying wire passes through the Hall sensor. The triangle icon on the transformer will point to the load's direction when measuring the positive lead.
- Connect the red wire of the meter to the positive (+) terminal of a separate DC 5-100V power supply.
- Connect the black wire of the meter to the negative (-) terminal of the separate power supply.
- Connect the yellow wire of the meter to the positive (+) terminal of the battery or circuit you wish to measure.
- Pass the main current-carrying wire (positive lead) through the center hole of the Hall current sensor. Ensure the triangle icon on the sensor points towards the load or controller.
6.3. Mounting
The meter is designed for panel mounting. Refer to Figure 5.3 for dimensions. Cut an opening of 76.0mm x 39.5mm in your panel and insert the meter. Secure it using the integrated clips.
7. Operating Instructions
The multimeter has two buttons for operation: the Menu/Save key (square icon) and the Backlight/+ key (triangle icon).
7.1. Display Functions
Refer to Figure 5.1 for a visual guide to the display elements:
- Battery Icon: Shows remaining battery capacity percentage.
- AH: Displays remaining capacity in Ampere-hours.
- A: Shows current in Amperes (positive for discharge, negative for charge).
- V: Displays voltage in Volts.
- W: Shows instantaneous power in Watts (positive for discharge, negative for charge).
- WH: Displays accumulated electrical energy in Watt-hours (positive for discharge, negative for charge).
7.2. Button Functions
- Menu/Save Key (Square):
- Short press: Cycle through display modes or menu options.
- Long press: Enter settings menu or save current settings.
- Backlight/+ Key (Triangle):
- Short press: Toggle backlight ON/OFF.
- Long press: Increase value in settings menu or clear accumulated AH/WH data (when not in settings).
7.3. Setting Parameters
To enter the settings menu, long-press the Menu/Save key. Use the Menu/Save key to cycle through parameters and the Backlight/+ key to adjust values. Long-press Menu/Save again to save and exit.
- AH (Battery Capacity): Set the total Ampere-hour capacity of your battery. This is crucial for accurate percentage display.
- FU (Full Voltage): Set the voltage at which your battery is considered fully charged. This helps the meter accurately determine 100% capacity.
- HU (High Voltage Alarm): Set the upper voltage limit. If the measured voltage exceeds this, the display will flash.
- LU (Low Voltage Alarm): Set the lower voltage limit. If the measured voltage drops below this, the display will flash.
- HA (High Amperage Alarm): Set the upper current limit. If the measured current exceeds this, the display will flash.
7.4. Current Sensor Calibration (Zeroing)
To ensure accurate current readings, especially after installation or if stray readings occur, it is recommended to zero the Hall current sensor:
- Disconnect all current from the circuit passing through the Hall sensor (i.e., ensure no current is flowing).
- With the meter powered on and displaying current, long-press the Backlight/+ key (triangle icon).
- The current reading should reset to 0.0A. If it does not, repeat the process.
8. Maintenance
- Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or corrosive environments.
- Regularly check wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or damage.
- Recalibrate the current sensor periodically or if you suspect inaccurate readings.
9. Troubleshooting
- No Display:
- Check power supply connections (red and black wires) to ensure they are correctly connected and within the DC 5-90V range.
- Verify the power source is active.
- Inaccurate Current Reading:
- Ensure the main current-carrying wire passes correctly through the Hall sensor.
- Perform a current sensor calibration (zeroing) as described in Section 7.4.
- Check if the Hall sensor is too close to other current-carrying wires, which can cause interference.
- Inaccurate AH/Battery Percentage:
- Verify that the AH (Battery Capacity) and FU (Full Voltage) parameters are correctly set in the menu (Section 7.3) according to your battery specifications.
- For initial accurate readings, fully discharge and then fully recharge your battery after setting the parameters.
- Alarm Flashing:
- Check the HU, LU, and HA alarm settings (Section 7.3) to ensure they are appropriate for your application.
- Address the underlying electrical condition (e.g., overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, low battery).
