2. Setup and Preparation

Before performing a blood glucose test, ensure you have the following components:

  • Dr Trust Gold Standard Blood Glucose Test Strips
  • Dr Trust Lancets
  • Compatible Dr Trust Blood Glucose Monitoring System (Models 9001 or 9002)
  • Lancing Device
  • Alcohol swab (optional, for cleaning site)

2.1 Test Strip Features

Figure 2: Detailed view of the Dr Trust test strip, highlighting key components such as the absorbent hole, confirmation window, test strip handle, and contact bars. The image also shows compatibility with the 9001 model glucometer and emphasizes minimal blood sample requirement (0.5 µL).

  • Absorbent Hole: Where the blood sample is applied.
  • Confirmation Window: Indicates if sufficient blood has been absorbed.
  • Test Strip Handle: Area to hold the strip without contaminating the test area.
  • Contact Bars: Insert into the glucometer.

Ensure the test strips are stored in their original vial with the cap tightly closed to protect them from moisture and light. Do not use expired test strips.

3. Operating Instructions: Performing a Blood Glucose Test

Follow these steps to perform a blood glucose test using your Dr Trust system:

  1. Prepare the Lancing Device: Insert a fresh lancet into your lancing device according to its specific instructions. Adjust the depth setting as needed.
  2. Wash Hands: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water, then dry them completely. This helps prevent infection and ensures an accurate sample.
  3. Insert Test Strip: Remove one test strip from the vial and immediately close the cap. Insert the test strip into the glucometer with the contact bars first. The meter will turn on automatically and display a symbol indicating it is ready for a blood sample.
  4. Obtain Blood Sample: Prick the side of your fingertip (or an alternate site, see section 3.1) with the lancing device. Gently squeeze your finger until a small drop of blood forms. A minimal blood sample of 0.5 µL is required.
  5. Apply Blood Sample: Touch the absorbent hole of the test strip to the blood drop. The blood will be drawn into the strip. Do not apply blood to the top of the strip. The confirmation window will indicate if enough blood has been absorbed.
  6. Read Result: The glucometer will display your blood glucose result within 5 seconds.
  7. Record Result: Note down your result, along with the date and time, for your records.
  8. Dispose Safely: Safely dispose of the used test strip and lancet in a sharps container.
Quick Test Steps and Alternate Site Testing diagram

Figure 3: Visual guide for quick test steps: 1. Collect blood sample, 2. Turn on meter & insert strip, 3. Touch strip with pricked finger, 4. View result in 5 seconds. Also illustrates alternate site testing areas on the body (upper arm, forearm, hand, fingertips, thigh, calf) and specific test areas for hands.

3.1 Alternate Site Testing (AST)

The Dr Trust Gold Standard Test Strips allow for alternate site testing (AST) from areas such as the upper arm, forearm, hand, fingertips, thigh, and calf. This can help minimize bruising and scarring. Consult your healthcare professional before using AST, as results from alternate sites may differ from fingertip results, especially during periods of rapid glucose change (e.g., after a meal, exercise, or during hypoglycemia).

4. Maintenance and Storage

  • Test Strips: Store test strips in their original vial at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the vial cap tightly closed immediately after removing a strip. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
  • Lancets: Store lancets in a clean, dry place at room temperature.
  • Disposal: Always dispose of used test strips and lancets in a puncture-resistant sharps container to prevent accidental injury.
  • Cleaning: Keep your glucometer clean by wiping it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not immerse the meter in water or use harsh cleaning agents.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during testing, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem/Error MessagePossible CauseSolution
"E-U" or similar "Used Strip" errorThe test strip may have been used previously, or the meter detected an issue with the strip.Ensure you are using a new, unused test strip. Insert the strip firmly into the meter. If the error persists, try another new strip.
