Preparation

  1. Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of loose paint, rust, wax, oil, and grease. For best results, lightly sand glossy surfaces.
  2. Protect Surrounding Area: Cover adjacent areas to protect from overspray.
  3. Shake Can: Shake the can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Continue to shake occasionally during use.

Application Instructions

  1. Test Spray: Before applying to your project, test spray on an inconspicuous area or scrap material to ensure color and glitter distribution.
  2. Hold Can Correctly: Hold the can upright 10-16 inches from the surface.
  3. Apply Light Coats: Apply several thin coats rather than one heavy coat. Overlap each pass slightly. Applying too much at once can lead to drips and an uneven glitter effect.
  4. Drying Between Coats: Allow 10-15 minutes between coats for optimal adhesion and glitter build-up.
  5. Achieving Desired Effect: Continue applying thin coats until the desired glitter intensity and coverage are achieved.

Troubleshooting

Clogged Nozzle / Uneven Spray

If the nozzle clogs or the spray becomes uneven, remove the nozzle and clean it. You can soak it in mineral spirits or use a thin wire to clear any dried paint or glitter. Ensure the can is shaken thoroughly before and during use to keep the glitter particles evenly dispersed.

Glitter Flaking Off

To minimize glitter flaking, ensure that the paint is fully dry and cured. For projects that will experience frequent handling or wear, consider applying a clear topcoat or sealer specifically designed for glitter. Apply the topcoat in light, even layers to avoid dulling the glitter's sparkle.

Insufficient Coverage

Glitter spray is designed to add sparkle, not necessarily opaque color. For a more vibrant and full glitter effect, it is recommended to apply a base coat of paint in a similar or complementary color before applying the glitter spray. This will enhance the glitter's appearance and provide better coverage.
