1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Byox 14-inch Flower Kids' Bicycle. This manual provides essential information for the safe assembly, operation, and maintenance of your child's new bicycle. Please read it thoroughly before assembly and retain it for future reference.

This bicycle is designed for children aged 4 years and older, with a maximum weight capacity of 35 kg. It features a durable metal frame, adjustable seat, front and rear brakes, a bell, training wheels, a front basket, and a doll seat for enhanced play.

2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating this bicycle. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.

  • Adult Supervision: Children should always be supervised by an adult while riding.
  • Protective Gear: Always ensure the child wears a properly fitted helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads.
  • Weight Limit: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 35 kg.
  • Age Recommendation: Suitable for children aged 4 years and older.
  • Brake Check: Before each ride, check that both front and rear brakes are functioning correctly.
  • Tire Pressure: Ensure tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.
  • Loose Parts: Regularly check all nuts, bolts, and quick-release levers to ensure they are securely tightened.
  • Riding Environment: Ride in safe, open areas away from traffic, steep hills, and uneven terrain.
  • Visibility: Ensure the child is visible to others. Consider adding reflectors or lights if riding in low-light conditions.
  • Chain Guard: The bicycle is equipped with a chain guard to reduce the risk of injury from the chain. Do not remove it.

  • Front Wheel
  • Handlebar Assembly (with bell and brake levers)
  • Seat Post and Saddle
  • Pedals (Left and Right)
  • Training Wheels (2 units)
  • Front Basket
  • Doll Seat
  • Assembly Tools (basic wrench, Allen keys - may vary)
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

4. Assembly Instructions

Assembly requires basic mechanical aptitude. If you are unsure about any step, seek professional assistance. Refer to the detailed assembly guide included in your package for specific diagrams and instructions.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging materials until assembly is complete.
  2. Front Wheel Installation: Attach the front wheel to the front fork. Ensure the wheel is centered and the axle nuts are securely tightened.
  3. Handlebar Installation: Insert the handlebar stem into the fork tube. Align the handlebar perpendicular to the front wheel and tighten the stem bolt. Ensure the bell and brake levers are easily accessible.
  4. Saddle and Seat Post Installation: Insert the seat post into the frame's seat tube. Adjust the saddle height to allow the child's feet to touch the ground comfortably when seated. Secure the quick-release lever or bolt.
  5. Pedal Installation: Identify the left (L) and right (R) pedals. The left pedal tightens counter-clockwise, and the right pedal tightens clockwise. Thread them carefully into the crank arms and tighten securely with a wrench.
  6. Training Wheels Installation: Attach the training wheels to the rear axle. Ensure they are at an appropriate height to provide stability without preventing the child from learning to balance.
  7. Front Basket and Doll Seat Installation: Attach the front basket to the handlebar and the doll seat to the rear rack/seat post according to their specific mounting hardware.
  8. Final Checks: Before the first ride, re-check all bolts, nuts, and quick-release levers for tightness. Test both brakes and ensure the steering is smooth.

5. Operating Instructions

Familiarize your child with the bicycle's controls in a safe, open area.

  • Starting to Ride: Help your child get on the bicycle. Ensure their feet can comfortably reach the pedals and the ground.
  • Pedaling: Teach your child how to pedal forward. The bicycle has a single speed for simplicity.
  • Braking: The bicycle features both front and rear hand brakes, as well as a coaster (back-pedal) brake. Teach your child to use the hand brakes gently and progressively. The coaster brake engages by pedaling backward. Practice braking until the child is proficient.
  • Steering: Guide your child on how to steer by gently turning the handlebars.
  • Using the Bell: Demonstrate how to use the bell to alert others.
  • Training Wheels: The training wheels provide initial stability. As your child gains confidence and balance, they can be adjusted higher or removed.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the bicycle.

  • Cleaning: Clean the bicycle regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid high-pressure washing, which can damage bearings.
  • Tire Pressure: Check tire pressure weekly. Maintain the pressure recommended on the tire sidewall.
  • Brakes: Inspect brake pads for wear and replace them if necessary. Ensure brake cables are not frayed and are properly tensioned. Adjust brake levers for easy reach.
  • Chain: Lubricate the chain periodically with bicycle-specific chain lubricant. Wipe off excess lubricant to prevent dirt accumulation. The chain guard should remain in place.
  • Bolts and Nuts: Periodically check all fasteners for tightness, especially on the wheels, handlebars, seat post, and pedals.
  • Bearings: If you notice any grinding or excessive play in the wheels, pedals, or headset, have the bearings inspected and serviced by a qualified bicycle mechanic.
  • Storage: Store the bicycle in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, to prevent rust and material degradation.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter.

  • Brakes Squeak: Clean brake pads and rims. If squeaking persists, brake pads may need adjustment or replacement.
  • Brakes Feel Loose: Check brake cable tension. Adjust the cable at the lever or caliper. Ensure brake pads are close to the rim without rubbing.
  • Pedals are Stiff/Noisy: Ensure pedals are securely tightened. If noise persists, the pedal bearings may need lubrication or replacement.
  • Chain Falls Off: Check for bent chain links or a misaligned chain guard. Ensure the rear wheel is properly aligned in the frame.
  • Wobbly Wheels: Check if wheel axle nuts are tight. If the wheel itself is bent (out of true), it may require professional truing.
  • Training Wheels Uneven: Adjust the height of the training wheels to ensure they both make contact with the ground or are slightly elevated for better balance learning.

For issues not covered here or if you are unsure about a repair, consult a professional bicycle mechanic.
