Setup Instructions

Follow these steps for initial setup of your Phonak TV Connector:

  1. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the TV Connector and then into a wall outlet. The power indicator light on the device should illuminate.
  2. Connect to TV/Audio Source:
    • Optical Cable (Recommended): Connect one end of the optical audio cable to the "Optical Out" port on your TV and the other end to the optical input on the TV Connector. Ensure your TV's optical output is enabled in its audio settings (often labeled "PCM" or "Digital Audio Out"). A red light should be visible from the TV's optical output when active.
    • 3.5mm Audio Cable: If your TV does not have an optical output, connect one end of the 3.5mm audio cable to the headphone jack or audio output on your TV and the other end to the 3.5mm input on the TV Connector.
  3. Power On: Turn on your television.
  4. Automatic Pairing: The TV Connector is designed for plug-and-play simplicity. Once powered on and connected to an audio source, it will automatically detect and pair with compatible Phonak or Unitron hearing aids that are within range and turned on. You should hear the streamed audio directly in your hearing aids.
  5. Verify Connection: Ensure your hearing aids are receiving audio from the TV Connector. You may need to briefly open and close the battery doors of your hearing aids (or restart rechargeable aids) to initiate pairing if it doesn't happen automatically.

Operating Instructions

Once set up, using your Phonak TV Connector is intuitive:

  • Automatic Streaming: When the TV Connector is active and your hearing aids are within range, audio streaming will automatically begin. If you move out of range and then return, the connection should re-establish automatically.
  • Volume Control: You can adjust the volume of the streamed audio directly through your hearing aids using their volume controls. This allows you to set your personal listening volume independently of the TV's main volume, which is ideal for shared viewing environments.
  • Switching Sources: If you receive a phone call or stream audio from another Bluetooth-enabled device connected to your hearing aids, the TV Connector audio will pause or switch. It will resume when the other audio source is disconnected.
  • Power Button: The power button on the TV Connector can be used to turn the device on or off. If the device goes to sleep after a period of inactivity, pressing the power button or restarting your hearing aids can re-establish the connection.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Phonak TV Connector, try the following solutions:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
No audio streaming to hearing aids.
  • Ensure the TV Connector is powered on and its indicator light is active.
  • Verify the audio cable (optical or 3.5mm) is securely connected to both the TV and the TV Connector.
  • For optical connection, ensure your TV's optical output is enabled and set to "PCM" or "Digital Audio Out" in its audio settings. A red light should be visible from the TV's optical port.
  • Confirm your hearing aids are turned on and within range (up to 50 feet).
  • Try restarting your hearing aids (open/close battery doors or power cycle rechargeable aids).
  • Check compatibility: Ensure your hearing aid model is listed as compatible.
Intermittent audio or connection drops.
  • Ensure the TV Connector is not obstructed and is within the 50-foot range of your hearing aids.
  • Check the power connection to the TV Connector; ensure it is stable and not loose.
  • Minimize interference from other electronic devices.
On/Off button on the device is unresponsive.
  • Some users have reported the physical button being stiff. If it doesn't respond, try unplugging the power cord from the device for a few seconds and then plugging it back in to power cycle it.
Echo effect or audio delay.
  • This can occur if the TV's internal speakers or a soundbar are also playing audio simultaneously with the streamed audio. Adjust your TV's audio settings to output sound only through the optical/audio out port, or use an optical splitter if you need to feed both a soundbar and the TV Connector from the same source.
