Setup

Powering On

  1. Connect the supplied AC adaptor to the DC 9V input jack on the rear panel of the KR-55 Pro.
  2. Plug the AC adaptor into a standard wall outlet.
  3. Alternatively, the KR-55 Pro can be powered by AA batteries (not included) for portable use. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment on the underside of the unit, observing polarity.
  4. Press and hold the power button on the top right of the unit to turn it on.

Connecting Instruments and Microphones

The KR-55 Pro offers a variety of input jacks for connecting external audio sources:

  • MIC IN: Connect an XLR microphone for vocal or acoustic instrument recording.
  • INPUT 1/2: Connect guitars, basses, or other line-level instruments using 1/4-inch phone cables.
  • AUX IN: Connect external audio players (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) using a stereo 3.5mm cable.

Ensure all connections are secure before adjusting volume levels.

Operating the KR-55 Pro

Rhythm Playback

The KR-55 Pro features 24 built-in drum/percussion styles. Each style includes basic patterns, two variations, and two fill-ins, plus an ending.

  1. Use the numbered buttons (1-24) to select a desired rhythm style.
  2. Press the PLAY button to start the rhythm.
  3. Use the FILL IN 1 and FILL IN 2 buttons to insert drum fills during playback.
  4. Press the END button to play an ending pattern and stop the rhythm.
  5. Adjust the tempo using the TEMPO knob or the TAP END button.

Mixer Functionality

The KR-55 Pro includes a mixer section to balance the levels of connected instruments and the internal rhythm.

  • MIC: Adjusts the volume of the microphone input.
  • INPUT 1/2: Adjusts the volume of the instrument inputs.
  • RHYTHM/PLAY: Controls the volume of the internal rhythm patterns and recorded playback.
  • REVERB: Adjusts the amount of reverb effect applied to the inputs.
  • BASS/TREBLE: Equalizer controls to shape the overall sound.
  • VOLUME: Master output volume control.

Recording to SD Card

The KR-55 Pro supports multi-track recording directly to an SD card (included).

  1. Ensure an SD card is inserted into the SD card slot.
  2. Press the RECORDER button to enter recording mode.
  3. Select the desired track for recording (e.g., rhythm, instrument, microphone).
  4. Press the REC button (usually indicated by a red light) to start recording.
  5. Press the STOP button to end recording.
  6. Recorded files can be played back using the PLAYER controls.

The chain function allows you to arrange different rhythm styles for an entire song, which can then be recorded.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the KR-55 Pro in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If using batteries, remove them to prevent leakage.
  • Handling: Avoid dropping or subjecting the unit to strong impacts. Do not place heavy objects on top of the unit.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Unit does not power on. AC adaptor not connected properly or faulty. Batteries are dead or incorrectly inserted. Check AC adaptor connection and wall outlet. Replace batteries or ensure correct polarity.
No sound output. Volume levels are too low. Cables are not connected properly. Output device (speaker/headphones) is off or faulty. Increase master volume and individual input/rhythm volumes. Check all audio cable connections. Verify external audio equipment.
Rhythm patterns do not play. Rhythm is paused or stopped. Incorrect rhythm style selected. Press the PLAY button. Ensure a rhythm style is selected (1-24).
Cannot record to SD card. SD card is full, write-protected, or faulty. Incorrect recording mode. Check SD card capacity and write-protect tab. Try a different SD card. Ensure you are in RECORDER mode.
