3. Setup and Assembly
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the hedge trimmer and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect the tool for any damage. Ensure all components listed in the package contents are present.
3.2 Battery Installation
This hedge trimmer is sold as a 'tool-only' package, meaning the 40V battery and charger are sold separately. If you already own a Greenworks 40V tool, you can use the same battery.
- Ensure the hedge trimmer is switched off.
- Align the battery pack with the battery port on the tool.
- Slide the battery pack into the tool until it clicks securely into place.
- To remove the battery, press the release button and pull the battery pack out.

3.3 Blade Cover Removal
Before operation, carefully remove the blade cover from the cutting blades. Always replace the blade cover when the tool is not in use or during storage.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Starting and Stopping the Hedge Trimmer
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and securely installed.
- To start, press and hold the safety switch (usually on the front handle) and then squeeze the trigger switch (on the rear handle).
- To stop, release the trigger switch. The blades will stop quickly.
4.2 Trimming Techniques
The G40HT61 features a 61 cm dual-action blade for faster, cleaner, and more effortless cutting. It also includes an anti-jamming system to prevent foliage from getting stuck between the blades.
- Horizontal Trimming: Hold the hedge trimmer with both hands, keeping the blades parallel to the ground. Move the trimmer in a sweeping motion across the top of the hedge.
- Vertical Trimming: For vertical sides, hold the trimmer with the blades perpendicular to the ground. The rotating rear handle can be adjusted up to 125° to provide comfortable and precise trimming angles.
- Cutting Capacity: This tool can cut branches and stems up to 27 mm thick. Do not attempt to cut thicker material, as this can damage the blades or motor.

5. Maintenance and Storage
5.1 Cleaning
After each use, ensure the battery is removed. Clean the blades and housing with a damp cloth. Remove any debris, sap, or leaves from the blades using a stiff brush.
5.2 Blade Care
Keep the cutting blades sharp and lubricated for optimal performance. Apply a light machine oil or blade lubricant to the blades after cleaning to prevent rust and reduce friction. If blades become dull or damaged, they should be professionally sharpened or replaced.
5.3 Storage
Store the hedge trimmer in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. Always replace the blade cover before storing. Remove the battery pack from the tool before storage, especially for extended periods.
