Important: Always verify your engine model and existing part numbers before purchasing and installing to ensure correct fitment.
4. Installation (Setup)
Follow these general steps for installing the fuel shut-off valve and grommet. Specific procedures may vary slightly depending on your equipment model. Always refer to your equipment's service manual for detailed instructions.
Safety Precautions:
- Ensure the engine is cool and disconnected from any power source (e.g., spark plug wire removed).
- Work in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames or sparks.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection.
- Have a suitable container ready to catch any drained fuel.
Installation Steps:
- Drain Fuel: If replacing an existing valve, ensure the fuel tank is empty. Use the existing shut-off valve (if present) to stop fuel flow, or clamp the fuel line. Drain any remaining fuel into a safe container.
- Remove Old Components: Disconnect the fuel line from the old shut-off valve. Carefully remove the old shut-off valve and the old fuel tank grommet from the fuel tank. Clean the area around the fuel tank hole.
- Install New Grommet: Insert the new 735-0149 fuel tank bushing (grommet) into the 33/64-inch fuel tank hole. Ensure it is seated firmly and creates a tight seal.
- Install New Shut Off Valve: Insert the 951-0171 fuel shut off valve into the newly installed grommet. Push it firmly until it is securely in place.
- Connect Fuel Line: Attach one end of the new fuel line to the outlet of the shut-off valve. Secure it with a clamp if necessary (clamps not included).
- Install Fuel Filter: Cut the fuel line to the appropriate length and install the new fuel filter in-line between the shut-off valve and the carburetor. Ensure the arrow on the fuel filter points towards the carburetor (direction of fuel flow). Secure connections with clamps.
- Connect to Carburetor: Connect the other end of the fuel line (from the fuel filter) to the carburetor inlet. Secure with a clamp.
- Check for Leaks: Refill the fuel tank with the appropriate fuel. Turn the shut-off valve to the 'ON' position (refer to Section 5). Inspect all connections for any signs of fuel leaks. Tighten connections as needed.
- Test Operation: Reconnect the spark plug wire. Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes, checking again for any leaks.
5. Operation
The Hipa Fuel Shut Off Valve provides precise control over fuel flow to your engine. It features two primary positions:
- ON Position: Allows fuel to flow from the tank to the engine. This is the normal operating position.
- OFF Position: Stops the flow of fuel from the tank to the engine. Use this position when storing equipment or performing maintenance.

To change the position, simply rotate the knob on the valve to align with the desired setting (ON or OFF).
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance of your fuel system components ensures optimal performance and longevity of your equipment.
General Maintenance Tips:
- Inspect for Leaks: Periodically check the fuel shut-off valve, grommet, and fuel lines for any signs of leaks or cracks. Replace components immediately if damage is found.
- Fuel Filter Replacement: The included fuel filter helps protect your engine from contaminants. Replace the fuel filter annually or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions or if fuel flow appears restricted.
- Component Quality: The Hipa shut-off valve features a nickel-plated copper body and a leak-proof rubber O-ring, designed for long lifespan, corrosion resistance, and temperature tolerance.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues after installing the Hipa Fuel Gas Tank Grommet and Shut Off Valve kit, consider the following:
- Fuel Leakage:
- Ensure all fuel line connections are tight and secured with clamps.
- Verify the fuel tank grommet is properly seated and not damaged.
- Check the shut-off valve for any visible cracks or damage.
- Engine Not Receiving Fuel / Not Starting:
- Confirm the fuel shut-off valve is in the 'ON' position.
- Check the fuel filter for clogging. If dirty, replace it.
- Ensure the fuel line is not kinked or obstructed.
If problems persist, consult a qualified service technician or refer to your equipment's specific service manual.
