5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Carefully remove the front cover of the thermostat.
  2. Locate the battery compartment.
  3. Insert the 2 x AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the front cover, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

5.2 Mounting

The Salus RT310 is designed for wall mounting. Choose a suitable location away from direct heat sources, drafts, or direct sunlight, which could affect temperature readings. The ideal height is typically 1.5 meters from the floor.

  1. Separate the front panel from the backplate.
  2. Position the backplate on the wall and mark the drilling points.
  3. Drill holes and insert wall plugs.
  4. Secure the backplate to the wall using the provided screws.

5.3 Wiring (230V Control)

WARNING: Ensure the main power supply to your heating system is switched OFF at the consumer unit/fuse box before attempting any wiring. Electrical installation should be performed by a qualified professional.

The Salus RT310 is a wired thermostat. It provides both Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC) contacts for connection to your heating system. For standard 230V control, you will typically use the COM and NO terminals.

Typical Wiring for Replacement (e.g., from an old analogue thermostat):

After wiring, carefully attach the thermostat front panel to the backplate. Restore power to your heating system.

6. Operation

6.1 Power On

Once batteries are installed and wiring is complete, the thermostat will power on and display the current room temperature.

6.2 Adjusting Temperature

Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) buttons to set your desired temperature. The display will show the set temperature briefly, then revert to the current room temperature. The thermostat will activate your heating system if the room temperature falls below your set temperature.

6.3 Backlight

Press any button to activate the display backlight for a few seconds, improving visibility in dark conditions.

6.4 Frost Protection

The RT310 includes a frost protection feature. When enabled, the thermostat will automatically activate the heating if the room temperature drops to a pre-set minimum (e.g., 5°C) to prevent pipes from freezing. Refer to the full manufacturer's manual for specific instructions on enabling/disabling this feature.

6.5 Sleep Mode

The thermostat may feature a sleep mode to conserve battery life and energy. Consult the manufacturer's detailed instructions for activating and deactivating sleep mode.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Battery Replacement

When the battery low indicator appears on the display, replace the 2 x AA alkaline batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 5.1.

7.2 Cleaning

Wipe the thermostat's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, sprays, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the device.
