3. Required Tools

The following tools are typically required for installation:

4. Door Preparation

Ensure your door is properly prepared for the Emtek Privacy Set. This lever is designed for doors between 1-3/8 inches to 2-1/4 inches thick with a standard 2-1/8 inch bore hole.

4.1 Backset Measurement

The standard latch is for a 2-3/8 inch backset (distance from the edge of the door to the center of the bore hole). If your door requires a 2-3/4 inch backset, ensure you have the correct latch mechanism.

  1. Measure the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the existing bore hole.
  2. If installing on a new door, mark the center of the bore hole at the desired backset (2-3/8" or 2-3/4") and drill a 2-1/8" hole.

5. Installation Instructions

Follow these steps for a successful installation:

  1. Install Latch: Insert the privacy latch mechanism into the bore hole on the edge of the door. Ensure the bevel of the latch bolt faces the direction the door closes. Secure with screws.
  2. Install Strike Plate: Position the strike plate on the door frame, aligning it with the latch bolt. Mark and chisel out the necessary recess for a flush fit. Secure with screws.
  3. Install Exterior Rosette and Lever: Place the exterior rosette and lever assembly onto the door, ensuring the spindle passes through the latch mechanism. The lever is handed (Right Hand), so ensure it is oriented correctly.
  4. Install Interior Rosette and Lever: Place the interior rosette and lever assembly onto the door, aligning it with the exterior components. Ensure the spindle engages properly.
  5. Secure Assemblies: Use the provided mounting screws to secure the interior and exterior assemblies together. Tighten screws evenly until snug, but do not overtighten.
  6. Test Operation: Test the lever action and the privacy locking mechanism to ensure smooth operation.

6. Operating Instructions

The Emtek Privacy Set is designed for interior doors where a locking function is desired from the inside, such as bedrooms or bathrooms. It does not feature an exterior key lock.

6.1 Locking the Door

From the interior side of the door, locate the privacy button or turn-piece on the rosette. Engage this mechanism to lock the door. The exterior lever will then be disengaged, preventing entry.

6.2 Unlocking the Door

From the interior, disengage the privacy button or turn-piece to unlock the door. From the exterior, an emergency release pin (typically a small hole) is provided on the rosette. Insert the emergency release pin into this hole and push to unlock the door in case of an emergency or accidental lockout.

7. Care and Maintenance

Proper care will help maintain the finish and functionality of your Emtek door hardware.
