1. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

• Read all instructions carefully before use.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
• To protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance in water or other liquid.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
• Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
• The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
• Do not use outdoors.
• Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “off,” then remove plug from wall outlet.
• Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
• Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot water.
• This appliance is for household use only.

3. Setup

1. Unpack: Carefully remove the kettle and its base from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
2. Placement: Place the power base on a dry, flat, stable surface away from the edge of the countertop. Ensure the power cord is not dangling or in contact with hot surfaces.
3. First Use Cleaning: Before first use, fill the kettle with fresh water up to the MAX level. Boil the water (select 212°F/100°C) and then discard it. Repeat this process twice to ensure the kettle is clean and free from any manufacturing residues.
4. Cord Management: The power base features a hidden cord wrap. Adjust the cord length as needed and store excess cord underneath the base for a tidy countertop.

4. Operating Instructions

1. Fill the Kettle: Press the lid opening button to open the soft-open lid. Fill the kettle with the desired amount of fresh water. Do not fill below the MIN mark or above the MAX mark. Close the lid securely.
2. Place on Base: Place the kettle firmly on its 360° swivel base.
3. Select Temperature: Use the temperature selection lever on the base to choose your desired water temperature. The illuminated indicators will show the selected temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.

4. Start Boiling: Press the ON/OFF button to start the heating process. The selected temperature indicator will blink while heating and remain solid once the temperature is reached. The kettle will automatically shut off.
5. Keep Warm Function: To activate the Keep Warm function, press the Keep Warm button (usually indicated by a thermometer icon) after selecting your desired temperature and before pressing the ON/OFF button. The kettle will maintain the selected temperature for up to 20 minutes.
6. Pour Water: Carefully lift the kettle from the base and pour the hot water. The anti-drip spout ensures a clean pour.

7. After Use: Unplug the kettle from the power outlet when not in use.

5. Temperature Settings Guide

The SMEG KLF04 offers precise temperature control, allowing you to heat water to the ideal temperature for various beverages:

• 122°F (50°C): Ideal for warm water, baby formula, or rewarming beverages.
• 140°F (60°C): Perfect for delicate green teas or white teas.
• 160°F (70°C): Suitable for some green teas and instant coffee.
• 175°F (80°C): Recommended for oolong teas.
• 190°F (90°C): Great for French press coffee or black teas.
• 205°F (95°C): Optimal for strong black teas or herbal infusions.
• 212°F (100°C): Boiling point, ideal for black teas, instant noodles, or sterilizing.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your kettle.

Cleaning the Exterior:

• Always unplug the kettle and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
• Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may damage the glossy finish.
• Ensure no water enters the electrical components.

Cleaning the Interior and Scale Filter:

• The kettle features a removable stainless steel scale filter located behind the spout.
• To remove, open the lid and gently pull the filter upwards.
• Rinse the filter under running water and brush off any mineral deposits. For stubborn deposits, soak the filter in a descaling solution.
• The interior of the kettle can be descaled periodically using a commercial descaling product or a natural solution (e.g., vinegar and water). Follow the descaling product instructions carefully.
• After descaling, rinse the interior thoroughly several times with fresh water.
• Reinsert the scale filter by aligning it with the guides and pushing it down until it clicks into place.
