Kuryakyn Swingarm Accent Instruction Manual

Model: 10000917

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Kuryakyn Swingarm Accent. This product is designed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your motorcycle's swingarm with a durable chrome finish. This manual provides essential information for proper installation and maintenance.

Compatibility: This swingarm accent is specifically designed for 2009-2013 Harley-Davidson Touring models, including FLHT, FLTR, FLHR, and FLHX.

The package includes a left and right pair of swingarm accents.

2. Setup and Installation

Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation. Ensure the motorcycle is stable and cool before proceeding.

  1. Prepare the Surface: Thoroughly clean the swingarm surface where the accent will be applied. Use a mild degreaser or rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt, grease, or wax. Allow the surface to dry completely.
  2. Test Fit: Before removing the adhesive backing, carefully position each swingarm accent on the corresponding side of the swingarm to ensure proper alignment and fit. Note the exact placement.
  3. Apply Accent: Peel off the protective backing from the adhesive on the back of the accent. Carefully align the accent with the previously determined position on the swingarm. Press firmly along the entire surface of the accent for at least 30 seconds to ensure good adhesion.
  4. Repeat for Other Side: Follow the same steps for the other swingarm accent.
  5. Curing Time: For optimal adhesion, avoid washing the motorcycle or exposing the accents to heavy moisture for at least 24 hours after installation.

3. Operating Instructions

The Kuryakyn Swingarm Accent is a decorative component and does not require specific operating instructions. Once properly installed, it functions passively to enhance the appearance of your motorcycle.

4. Maintenance

To maintain the chrome finish and ensure the longevity of your swingarm accents, follow these guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Clean the chrome accents regularly with a soft cloth, mild soap, and water.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Do not use abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can scratch or damage the chrome finish.
  • Polishing: For an extra shine, a non-abrasive chrome polish specifically designed for motorcycle chrome can be used periodically.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the adhesion of the accents to ensure they remain securely attached.

5. Troubleshooting

Most issues with decorative accents are related to installation or surface care.

  • Accent Not Sticking: Ensure the surface was thoroughly cleaned and dry before application. Temperature can also affect adhesion; apply in moderate temperatures (above 60°F / 15°C). If the adhesive fails, contact Kuryakyn support for possible replacement adhesive or product.
  • Scratches or Damage to Finish: Minor scratches may be buffed out with a specialized chrome polish. For significant damage, replacement may be necessary.
