2. Water Tank and Filter Installation
Remove the water tank from the back of the machine. Install the ClaroSwiss water filter into the filter holder inside the tank. Fill the tank with fresh, cold water up to the MAX line and securely place it back into the machine.
3. Bean Hopper Installation
Place the bean hopper on top of the machine, aligning it with the grinding collar. Rotate the hopper clockwise until it locks into position. Fill the hopper with fresh whole coffee beans.
4. Initial Power On and Setup
Plug the machine into a grounded power outlet. Press the POWER button. The touchscreen will guide you through the initial setup process, including selecting your language and setting water hardness. Follow the on-screen prompts for the first use cycle, which primes the machine.
Operating Instructions
1. Touchscreen Navigation
The intuitive touchscreen allows you to select from pre-programmed coffee drinks or customize your own. Swipe left or right to browse drink options such as Espresso, Americano, Latte, Flat White, and Cappuccino. Tap on a drink to select it.

2. Grinding and Dosing
Insert the 54mm portafilter into the grinding cradle. The machine features an integrated precision conical burr grinder with dose control. The touchscreen will guide you to select the grind size and dose. The machine will automatically grind the precise amount of coffee directly into the portafilter.

3. Tamping
After grinding, use the integrated tamper to compress the ground coffee firmly and evenly in the portafilter. This creates a consistent puck for optimal extraction.

4. Espresso Extraction
Insert the tamped portafilter into the group head and lock it into place. Place your cup(s) under the spouts. The innovative ThermoJet heating system achieves the optimum extraction temperature in 3 seconds. Low pressure pre-infusion gradually increases pressure, followed by precise digital temperature control (PID) for balanced extraction.
5. Automatic Microfoam Milk Texturing
For milk-based drinks, place the milk jug with cold milk under the auto steam wand. The machine will automatically texture the milk to your desired temperature and texture, creating barista-quality microfoam essential for latte art and enhanced flavor.

6. Customizing and Saving Drinks
The touchscreen allows you to easily adjust coffee strength, milk texture, and temperature. You can create and save up to 8 personalized coffee settings for quick access to your favorite beverages.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your Breville Barista Touch.
1. Daily Cleaning
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter and discard the coffee puck. Rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under hot water.
- Steam Wand: Immediately after texturing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth. The machine will perform an automatic purge to clear any milk residue.
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray daily or when the "EMPTY ME!" indicator appears.
2. Weekly Cleaning
- Group Head: Perform a backflush cycle using a cleaning tablet and the blind filter basket as instructed by the machine's display.
- Grinder Burrs: Clean the grinder burrs periodically to prevent buildup and ensure consistent grinding. Refer to the full user manual for detailed instructions.
3. Descaling
The machine will prompt you when descaling is required. Follow the on-screen instructions and use a descaling solution specifically designed for espresso machines. Regular descaling prevents mineral buildup and maintains heating efficiency.
4. Water Filter Replacement
Replace the ClaroSwiss water filter every 3 months or as prompted by the machine to ensure optimal water quality and reduce the need for frequent descaling.
