- Prepare Water: Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower water reservoir. Fill the lower reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the level of the safety valve.
- Add Coffee: Insert the filter funnel into the lower reservoir. Fill the filter funnel with finely ground espresso coffee. Do not tamp the coffee too firmly, as this can impede water flow. Level the coffee gently.
- Assemble: Ensure the gasket and filter plate are correctly positioned in the upper chamber. Carefully screw the upper chamber firmly onto the lower reservoir, ensuring a tight seal to prevent leaks during brewing.
- Place on Base: Place the assembled coffee maker onto the heating base.
- Power On: Plug the power cord into a suitable UK electrical outlet. Press the On/Off switch to the 'On' position. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Brewing: Water in the lower reservoir will heat up and be forced through the ground coffee into the upper chamber. This process typically takes a few minutes.
- Serve: Once the upper chamber is full of brewed coffee, the appliance will automatically switch off. Carefully remove the coffee maker from the heating base using the handle. Pour and serve your fresh espresso.
- Cool Down: Allow the coffee maker to cool completely before disassembling and cleaning.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of your coffee maker and ensure consistent coffee quality.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Always ensure the appliance is unplugged and completely cool before cleaning.
- Unscrew the upper chamber from the lower reservoir.
- Remove the used coffee grounds from the filter funnel and discard them.
- Wash the upper chamber, filter funnel, and lower water reservoir with warm soapy water. Use a soft brush if necessary to remove coffee residues.
- Rinse all parts thoroughly with clean water and dry them completely before reassembling or storing.
- Wipe the heating base with a damp cloth. Never immerse the heating base or power cord in water.
6.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the water reservoir, affecting performance. Descale your coffee maker every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you live in an area with hard water.
- Fill the lower water reservoir with a solution of water and white vinegar (1:1 ratio) or a commercial descaling agent according to its instructions.
- Assemble the coffee maker without coffee grounds.
- Place on the heating base and run a brewing cycle as you would for coffee.
- After the cycle, discard the descaling solution.
- Run 2-3 cycles with fresh water only to rinse the appliance thoroughly and remove any residual descaling solution.
6.3 Gasket Replacement
The rubber gasket between the upper and lower chambers may wear out over time, leading to leaks. Inspect it regularly and replace it if it appears cracked or brittle. Replacement gaskets can be purchased from authorized Jocca retailers.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your coffee maker, refer to the following table for common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee not brewing or very slow. | Coffee grounds too fine or tamped too hard; insufficient water; clogged filter. | Use coarser grind; do not tamp coffee; ensure water is filled to safety valve; clean filter funnel and filter plate. |
| Weak coffee. | Too little coffee; coffee grounds too coarse; water level too high. | Increase coffee amount; use finer grind; ensure water is filled only to safety valve. |
| Water leaking from sides. | Upper and lower chambers not screwed on tightly; worn gasket. | Ensure chambers are tightly sealed; inspect and replace gasket if damaged. |
| Appliance not turning on. | Not plugged in; power outlet issue; faulty switch. | Check power cord connection; try a different outlet; contact customer support if switch is faulty. |
| Coffee tastes burnt or metallic. | Appliance needs cleaning; old coffee residue; poor water quality. | Perform thorough cleaning and descaling; use fresh, filtered water. |
