3. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Tenda PH5 Powerline Wi-Fi Extender Kit:

  1. Connect the Powerline Adapter (PH5-P):

Plug the smaller PH5-P powerline adapter directly into a wall electrical outlet near your internet router. Connect one end of the provided Ethernet cable to the PH5-P's Ethernet port and the other end to an available LAN port on your router.

  2. Connect the Wi-Fi Powerline Extender (PH5-W):

Plug the larger PH5-W Wi-Fi powerline extender directly into a wall electrical outlet in the room where you need extended Wi-Fi coverage. Ensure it is not plugged into a power strip or surge protector, as this can degrade performance.

  3. Pairing the Devices:

The devices should automatically pair. The Powerline LED on both units should turn solid green, indicating a successful connection. If not, press the Pair button on the PH5-P for 1 second, then within 2 minutes, press the Pair button on the PH5-W for 1 second.

  4. Wi-Fi Clone Setup (Optional but Recommended):

To extend your existing Wi-Fi network with the same name and password, use the Wi-Fi Clone function:

    • Press the WPS/Wi-Fi button on your main router.
    • Within 2 minutes, press the Wi-Fi button on the PH5-W unit.
    • The Wi-Fi LED on the PH5-W will flash rapidly and then turn solid, indicating successful cloning. Your PH5-W will now broadcast your router's Wi-Fi name and password.

4. Operating the Device

Once set up, your Tenda PH5 kit operates automatically. The PH5-P adapter converts your internet signal into a powerline signal, which is then transmitted through your home's electrical wiring. The PH5-W extender receives this signal and converts it back into a network signal, broadcasting both wired and wireless connectivity.

  • Wired Connections: Use the two Gigabit Ethernet ports on the PH5-W to connect devices like smart TVs, gaming consoles, PCs, or network-attached storage (NAS) for stable, high-speed wired connections.
  • Wireless Connections: Devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops can connect to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by the PH5-W. If you used the Wi-Fi Clone function, your devices will seamlessly connect to the extended network using your existing Wi-Fi credentials.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Tenda PH5 Powerline Wi-Fi Extender Kit, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Keep Clean: Periodically wipe the devices with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation holes on the devices are not blocked. Adequate airflow prevents overheating.
  • Direct Plug-in: Always plug the units directly into a wall outlet. Avoid power strips, extension cords, or surge protectors, as they can interfere with powerline signal quality.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the official Tenda website periodically for any available firmware updates. Updating firmware can improve performance and add new features.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Tenda PH5 kit, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Problem Possible Solution
