5. Installation (Setup)
Careful installation is crucial for optimal performance and safety. Ensure all safety precautions from Section 2 are followed.
5.1 Pre-installation Checklist
- Verify that the power supply is 12V DC or 24V DC.
- Ensure the total wattage of the connected LED load does not exceed the detector's maximum capacity (60W for 12V, 120W for 24V).
- Choose a suitable location for the recessed sensor (Ø 15 mm hole required) that provides the desired detection coverage and is free from obstructions. Avoid placing near heat sources or direct sunlight, which can cause false triggers.
- Ensure adequate space for the control unit (55 x 38 x 26 mm) to be hidden or mounted securely.
5.2 Wiring Instructions
Always disconnect power before wiring.
- Identify the input wires for your 12V/24V DC power supply and the output wires for your LED load.
- Connect the input wires from your DC power supply to the corresponding input terminals on the control unit. Typically, this involves positive (+) and negative (-) connections.
- Connect the output wires from the control unit to your LED lighting fixture. Ensure correct polarity if required by your LED lights.
- The PIR sensor is pre-connected to the control unit via a 16 cm cable. Ensure this connection is secure.

5.3 Mounting the Sensor
- Drill a hole of Ø 15 mm at the chosen installation location for the sensor.
- Carefully insert the sensor into the drilled hole until it sits flush with the surface.
- Position the control unit in a secure, hidden location, ensuring the sensor cable is not strained.
6. Operation and Settings
The HAVA Mini Recessed Motion Detector features adjustable settings for detection range, twilight sensitivity (LUX), and switching time (TIME) using DIP switches located on the control unit.
6.1 Adjusting Detection Range
The detection range can be adjusted between 3 and 6 meters. Refer to the DIP switch settings on the control unit (Figure 3.1) for specific configurations. Experiment with settings to find the optimal range for your environment.

6.2 Adjusting Twilight Sensitivity (LUX)
The LUX setting determines the ambient light level at which the motion detector will activate the connected lights. It can be adjusted from less than 10 Lux (darkness) up to 2000 Lux (daylight). This allows for day/night or night-only operation.
- < 10 Lux: The detector will only activate in very dark conditions.
- 2000 Lux: The detector will activate regardless of ambient light (day and night operation).
Refer to the DIP switch settings on the control unit (Figure 3.1) for specific LUX configurations.

6.3 Adjusting Switching Time (TIME)
The TIME setting determines how long the connected lights remain on after motion is no longer detected. The adjustable options are 5 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and 8 minutes.
Refer to the DIP switch settings on the control unit (Figure 3.1) for specific TIME configurations.
7. Maintenance
The HAVA Mini Recessed Motion Detector requires minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the sensor lens and control unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspection: Periodically check the wiring for any signs of damage or loose connections. Ensure the sensor is free from obstructions.
- Environment: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified IP20 rating (dry, indoor use).
8. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your motion detector, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lights do not turn on with motion. | No power; incorrect wiring; LUX setting too high; sensor obstructed; faulty LED load. | Check power supply; verify wiring (refer to Figure 5.1); adjust LUX setting to a lower value or 2000 Lux for testing; clear obstructions from sensor; test LED load with direct power. |
| Lights stay on continuously. | Constant motion in detection area; TIME setting too long; faulty unit. | Ensure no continuous motion; reduce TIME setting; if problem persists, unit may be faulty. |
| Lights turn on too frequently or falsely. | Sensor too sensitive; detection range too wide; heat sources or air currents in detection area. | Adjust detection range to a lower setting; reposition sensor away from heat vents, windows, or moving objects; adjust LUX setting if ambient light is causing issues. |
| Lights turn off too quickly. | TIME setting too short. | Increase TIME setting. |
