3. Programming Your Keypad

The 877MAX keypad can control up to four garage door openers. Follow these steps to program your keypad to your garage door opener. The specific steps depend on the color of the "Learn" button on your garage door opener motor unit.

Important: The programming instructions are also located under the keypad's protective cover for quick reference.

Locating Your Learn Button:

The "Learn" button is typically located on the back or side panel of your garage door opener motor unit, near the antenna wire. It will be a colored button (Yellow, Purple, Red/Orange, or Green).

Programming Steps:

  1. Choose a 4-Digit PIN: Select a personal 4-digit identification number (PIN) that you will remember. Write it down in a secure place if necessary.
  2. Press and Release the Learn Button: On your garage door opener motor unit, press and immediately release the "Learn" button. The LED indicator next to the button will light up steadily for 30 seconds. You must complete the next step within this 30-second window.
  3. Enter PIN on Keypad: Within 30 seconds, go to your keypad and enter your chosen 4-digit PIN. Then, press and hold the ENTER button.
  4. Release ENTER Button: Release the ENTER button when the garage door opener lights flash or two clicks are heard. This indicates successful programming.
  5. Test the Keypad: Enter your 4-digit PIN and press ENTER. The garage door should activate.

If the keypad does not activate the garage door, repeat the programming steps. Ensure you are pressing and releasing the "Learn" button quickly and completing the keypad entry within 30 seconds.

Programming Multiple Garage Door Openers:

The 877MAX can control up to four different garage door openers. To program additional openers, repeat the "Programming Steps" above, but for each additional opener, choose a different 4-digit PIN. Each PIN will be associated with a specific garage door opener.

Setting Temporary Passwords:

You can assign temporary passwords for visitors or service personnel. This feature allows access for a limited number of entries or a specific time period without revealing your primary PIN. Refer to the detailed instructions provided under the keypad cover for specific steps on setting temporary passwords, as these can vary slightly by opener model.

Operating the Keypad

To operate your garage door using the 877MAX Keyless Entry Keypad:

  1. Enter your programmed 4-digit PIN.
  2. Press the ENTER button.

The garage door will begin to move. If the door is open, it will close. If the door is closed, it will open. If the door is in motion, pressing the PIN and ENTER again will stop it.

One-Button-to-Close Feature: For LiftMaster Garage Door Openers manufactured since 2006, you can close the garage door by simply pressing the ENTER button once, without entering a PIN. This feature is for closing only and does not open the door.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

The keypad is powered by a 9-volt battery. When the keypad's backlight dims or the keypad becomes unresponsive, it is time to replace the battery.

  1. Slide the protective cover upwards.
  2. Gently remove the keypad's back cover.
  3. Remove the old 9-volt battery and dispose of it properly.
  4. Insert a new 9-volt alkaline battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  5. Replace the back cover securely.
  6. Test the keypad operation.

Note: Replacing the battery does not erase your programmed PINs.

Cleaning

Wipe the keypad surface with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or electronic components.
