Unlike many tents in this class, our freestanding tent design offers true-to-size capacity for two and features two large doors plus new larger vestibules with 35% more space. The versatile tent balances breathable mesh fabric with solid canopy fabric to provide ventilation, warmth and privacy, while the included footprint offers multiple setup options, including a freestanding fast & light pitch with rainfly. Whether you're planning your first backpacking trip or your next one, the elixir 2 tent is your remedy.

What's in the Box

Your MSR Elixir 2-Person Lightweight Backpacking Tent package includes the following components:

  • Tent Body
  • Poles
  • Rainfly
  • Footprint
  • Stakes
  • Guy Lines
  • Stuff Sack

Setup Instructions

Follow these steps for a quick and easy setup of your MSR Elixir 2 tent. The freestanding system features color-coded poles, clips, webbing, and vestibules to simplify the process.

  1. Lay out the Footprint: Place the included footprint on your chosen campsite. This protects the tent floor.
  2. Position the Tent Body: Lay the tent body over the footprint, ensuring the doors are facing your desired direction.
  3. Assemble the Poles: Connect the pole sections. The poles are color-coded to match the tent's grommets and clips for intuitive assembly. Each red pole is laser-etched to indicate its correct placement.
  4. Attach Poles to Tent Body: Insert the pole ends into the corresponding grommets on the tent body. Secure the tent body to the poles using the clips.
  5. Drape the Rainfly: Place the rainfly over the tent body. Align the red vestibule doors of the rainfly with the tent doors.
  6. Secure the Rainfly: Attach the rainfly to the tent poles and stake out the vestibules and guy lines. This provides additional stability and weather protection.
  7. Adjust Tension: Ensure all poles and lines are taut for optimal performance and stability.

Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your MSR Elixir 2 tent:

  • Cleaning: Clean your tent with a sponge and warm water. Use a mild, non-detergent soap if necessary. Avoid harsh chemicals or washing machines, as these can damage the fabric coatings.
  • Drying: Always ensure your tent is completely dry before packing it away. Store it loosely in a cool, dry place. Packing a wet tent can lead to mildew and degradation of waterproof coatings.
  • Storage: Store poles and stakes separately from the tent body and rainfly to prevent punctures. Avoid storing the tent in direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
  • Repairs: Small tears can often be repaired with a tent repair kit. For larger damage or issues with waterproof coatings, contact MSR customer support.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their solutions:

  • Condensation Inside Tent: Ensure proper ventilation by opening vents or partially unzipping doors (if weather permits). Condensation is natural when warm, moist air meets cooler surfaces.
  • Water Leaking: Check for proper rainfly tension and ensure all zippers are fully closed. Inspect seams for wear; seam sealer may be needed over time. Ensure the footprint is not extending beyond the rainfly, which can channel water under the tent.
  • Difficulty with Pole Assembly: Refer to the color-coded system and laser-etched pole markings. Ensure all pole sections are fully seated. If a pole is bent or broken, contact MSR for replacement parts.
  • Zippers Sticking: Clean zippers with a brush to remove dirt and debris. Lubricate with a silicone-based zipper lubricant if needed.
