NTSC/PAL Region Switch

The Hyperkin SupaRetroN HD console features a region switch on its bottom panel to ensure compatibility with both NTSC (North America, Japan) and PAL (Europe, Australia) Super NES/Super Famicom cartridges.

  • NTSC: Select this setting for cartridges from NTSC regions.
  • PAL: Select this setting for cartridges from PAL regions.

If a game does not load or displays an error message, ensure this switch is set to the correct region for your cartridge. You may need to power cycle the console after changing the switch setting.

Aspect Ratio Switch

The console includes a switch on the rear panel to toggle between 16:9 (widescreen) and 4:3 (original) aspect ratios for video output.

  • 16:9: Stretches the image to fill a widescreen display.
  • 4:3: Preserves the original aspect ratio of the game, often resulting in black bars on the sides of a widescreen display.

Adjust this switch according to your preference and display type. Changes take effect immediately.

  • Avoid spilling liquids on the console or controllers.
  • Clean the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Periodically inspect controller cables for damage.
  • Ensure game cartridges are clean before inserting them into the console.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SupaRetroN HD console, refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Power: Ensure the Micro USB cable is securely connected to both the console and the AC adapter, and that the adapter is plugged into a working power outlet. Try a different outlet or USB power source.
  • No Video/Audio:
    • Verify that the HDMI or AV cables are securely connected to both the console and the display.
    • Ensure your television is set to the correct input source (HDMI 1, AV, etc.).
    • If using HDMI, try a different HDMI port on your TV or a different HDMI cable.
  • Game Not Loading/Displaying Errors:
    • Ensure the game cartridge is fully and correctly inserted.
    • Clean the cartridge contacts with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
    • Check the NTSC/PAL region switch on the bottom of the console and ensure it matches the region of your game cartridge. Power cycle the console after adjusting this switch.
    • Press the Reset button on the console.
  • Controller Issues (e.g., unresponsive, diagonal input problems):
    • Ensure controllers are firmly plugged into the console's front ports.
    • Test with a different game or controller if available to isolate the issue.
    • Some games, particularly those requiring precise diagonal inputs (e.g., fighting games), may exhibit limitations with certain third-party controllers.
