Hessaire MC18M

Hessaire MC18M Evaporative Air Cooler User Manual

Model: MC18M | Brand: Hessaire

1. Product Overview

The Hessaire MC18M Evaporative Air Cooler is designed to provide efficient cooling by pulling hot, dry air through a water-soaked media filter. This process lowers the air's temperature through evaporation, making it optimal for use in hot, dry climates. Unlike traditional air conditioners, evaporative coolers do not use refrigerants and are less effective in high humidity areas.

This versatile portable unit delivers 1,300 CFM of cool airflow, covering up to 500 sq ft of open space. It features a 4.8-gallon water tank, providing 3-4 hours of continuous use. A built-in float valve and garden hose adapter allow for easy, continuous water supply without overflowing the tank.

The MC18M includes a motor speed dial with 5 settings: 2 fan modes (HI and LOW speed with pump on), 2 fan-only modes (HI and LOW speed with pump off), and a pump-only mode. Its high-efficiency 0.7A motor allows operation with a 115V power supply, making it suitable for various outdoor and portable applications.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Assembly

Upon receiving your Hessaire MC18M, carefully remove all packaging materials. Assembly is required, primarily involving the attachment of the wheels to the bottom of the unit. Ensure all components listed in the "What's in the Box" section are present.

  • Attach the four casters to the designated points on the bottom of the cooler. Two casters are locking, and two are non-locking.
  • If using a garden hose for continuous water supply, attach the brass garden hose adapter to the water inlet on the side of the unit.

3.2 Placement Guidelines

For optimal performance, your evaporative cooler must be positioned in front of an open window or door to draw in hot, dry air. It is crucial to ensure there is another open window or door through which the humidified air can exhaust from the room. This creates a cross-ventilation effect, preventing humidity buildup and maximizing cooling efficiency.

Evaporative coolers are most effective in dry climates and are suitable for outdoor use, such as patios, garages, camping, and outdoor kitchens.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Filling the Water Tank

  • Ensure the unit is unplugged before filling the water tank.
  • Fill the 4.8-gallon water tank with clean water. The water level indicator on the front of the unit will show the current level.
  • Alternatively, connect a standard garden hose to the brass adapter for continuous water supply. The built-in float valve will automatically maintain the water level.

4.2 Control Settings

The Hessaire MC18M features a simple knob control with five settings:

  • Pump On: Turn the knob to this setting to pre-wet the evaporative pads before turning on the fan. This ensures immediate cooling when the fan starts.
  • Low Fan with Pump On: Activates the fan on a low speed with evaporative cooling. Ideal for moderate cooling needs.
  • High Fan with Pump On: Activates the fan on a high speed with evaporative cooling. Provides maximum cooling for larger areas or hotter conditions.
  • Low Fan (Pump Off): Operates the fan on a low speed without the pump, circulating air without adding humidity. Useful when cooling is not required or to dry the pads.
  • High Fan (Pump Off): Operates the fan on a high speed without the pump, providing strong air circulation.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your evaporative air cooler.

5.1 Daily Maintenance

  • At the end of each day of use, run your cooler on FAN ONLY for 30 minutes. This helps to dry out the evaporative filter, preventing mold and mildew growth.

5.2 Seasonal Storage

Before storing your cooler for the winter or extended periods, perform the following steps:

  • Drain the water tank completely and wipe it clean to remove any residue or mineral deposits.
  • Clean the evaporative filter. Refer to the detailed cleaning instructions in the User Manual (PDF) for best practices.
  • Reassemble the unit.
  • Run the cooler on FAN ONLY for 30 minutes to ensure the filter is thoroughly dry before storage.
  • Store the unit in a dry, protected area.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Hessaire MC18M, please refer to the official Troubleshooting Guide for detailed solutions.

For common issues, ensure:

  • The water tank is adequately filled or the continuous water supply is connected and functioning.
  • The unit is properly positioned with adequate cross-ventilation (open windows/doors).
  • The evaporative pads are clean and not clogged with mineral deposits.
  • The power cord is securely plugged into a 115V outlet.

For a comprehensive guide, download the official Troubleshooting Guide (PDF).
