4. Setup and Assembly

Note: The machine and table require assembly. It is recommended to have assistance during the assembly process due to the weight and size of the components.

4.1. Table Assembly

  1. Unpack all table components and hardware.
  2. Assemble the table legs and crossbars according to the included hardware. Ensure all bolts are securely tightened.
  3. Place the assembled table frame in the desired location.
  4. Carefully place the table top onto the frame, aligning the pre-drilled holes. Secure the table top to the frame using the provided screws.

4.2. Servo Motor Installation (SMS-400)

  1. Mount the SMS-400 servo motor to the underside of the table using the provided brackets and bolts. Ensure it is positioned correctly to align with the machine head's pulley.
  2. Connect the foot pedal rod to the motor's control arm and the foot pedal itself. Adjust the rod length for comfortable operation.
  3. Install the drive belt between the motor pulley and the machine head's handwheel pulley. The belt should be taut but not overly tight.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Powering On/Off

Plug the machine's power cord into a standard 110-volt outlet. Use the power switch located on the servo motor to turn the machine on or off.

5.2. Threading the Machine

  1. Place a spool of thread on the thread stand.
  2. Guide the thread through the upper thread guides.
  3. Pass the thread through the tension discs, ensuring it is seated correctly.
  4. Thread the take-up lever.
  5. Guide the thread through the remaining guides down to the needle.
  6. Thread the needle from front to back.
  7. Insert a wound bobbin into the bobbin case and place it into the shuttle hook assembly beneath the needle plate.

5.3. Adjusting Stitch Length

The stitch length can be adjusted using the stitch length dial, typically located on the front of the machine head. Rotate the dial to select the desired stitch length, up to a maximum of 5mm.

5.4. Adjusting Presser Foot Lift

The presser foot can be lifted by hand up to 5.5 mm or by knee up to 13 mm. Use the knee lift lever for greater clearance when working with thicker materials or multiple layers.

5.5. Sewing Speed Adjustment

The SMS-400 servo motor allows for variable speed control. Use the speed adjustment dial on the motor to set the maximum sewing speed (0-3300 RPM). The foot pedal then controls the actual speed within this set range.

5.6. Reverse Stitching

To engage reverse stitching, press down on the reverse lever, usually located near the needle area. Release the lever to resume forward stitching.

5.7. Material Compatibility

This machine is designed for sewing light to medium-weight materials. It is not a walking foot machine and may not be suitable for very heavy or thick fabrics.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

  • Regularly clean lint and dust from the bobbin case, feed dogs, and needle plate area using a small brush or vacuum cleaner.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.

6.2. Oiling

Refer to the machine head's specific oiling points, usually indicated by red dots or caps. Use only high-quality sewing machine oil. Regular oiling is crucial for the longevity and smooth operation of industrial sewing machines.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Skipped Stitches: Check if the needle is bent or dull. Ensure the needle is inserted correctly and is the appropriate type and size for the fabric. Verify proper threading.
  • Thread Breakage: Inspect the thread path for snags. Check thread tension (upper and bobbin). Ensure the needle is not damaged. Use good quality thread.
  • Uneven Stitches: Adjust thread tension. Ensure the presser foot pressure is appropriate for the fabric.
  • Machine Not Starting: Check power connection. Ensure the power switch on the motor is ON. Verify the drive belt is properly installed.
  • Noise/Vibration: Check for loose parts. Ensure the machine is properly oiled. Inspect the drive belt for wear.

For issues not resolved by these steps, it is recommended to consult a qualified sewing machine technician.
