Setup
1. Power Supply
The ICF-SW30 can be powered by three (3) AA batteries or an external DC 4.5V power adapter (center positive).
- Battery Installation: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit. Insert three AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment. Close the cover securely.
- External Power: Connect a compatible DC 4.5V (center positive) power adapter to the external power jack on the side of the unit. Using an incorrect adapter may damage the receiver.
2. Antenna Setup
- FM/SW Reception: Extend the telescopic rod antenna fully and adjust its angle for optimal reception.
- MW (AM) Reception: The unit uses a built-in ferrite bar antenna for MW reception. For best results, rotate the entire unit horizontally to find the strongest signal.
Operating Instructions
1. Power On/Off
Press the POWER button to turn the receiver on or off.
2. Band Selection
Press the FM, MW, or SW buttons to select the desired frequency band. The ICF-SW30 offers 5 bands each for FM, MW, and SW, totaling 15 bands for one-touch selection.
3. Tuning
- Manual Tuning: Use the TUNING dial or UP/DOWN buttons to manually adjust the frequency.
- Scan Tuning: Press the SCAN button to automatically search for available stations.
- 1kHz Step Tuning (SW): For Shortwave (SW) bands, the receiver supports 1kHz step tuning for precise frequency adjustment.
4. Volume and Tone Control
- Volume: Adjust the VOLUME knob to increase or decrease the sound level.
- Tone Selector: Use the TONE switch to select between different audio characteristics (e.g., Music, News).
5. World Time Clock and Summer Time
The unit features a built-in world time clock that allows instant recall of times for two locations (domestic and international). It also includes a summer time display function. Refer to the full manual for setting these features.
6. Standby/Sleep Timer
The ICF-SW30 is equipped with a standby and sleep timer function, allowing you to set the radio to turn off automatically after a specified period. Consult the detailed instructions for timer setup.
7. FM Stereo Reception
For FM stereo broadcasts, connect stereo headphones to the headphone jack. The unit will automatically switch to stereo output when headphones are detected.
8. Battery Check
The receiver includes a battery check function to monitor the remaining battery life. An LED tuning indicator also assists in finding optimal signal strength.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
- Battery Replacement: Replace all batteries with new ones when the battery check indicator shows low power or when the unit's performance degrades. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.
- Storage: If the unit will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
