6. Operating Instructions
The Cal-Royal CR-SL50-26D is an exit function lever set. Its operation is straightforward:
- From the Interior: Simply depress the lever handle to retract the latch bolt and open the door. The door can always be opened from the inside for emergency egress.
- From the Exterior: The exterior lever is fixed and does not retract the latch. This model does not allow key entry from the outside. The door can only be opened from the exterior if it is unlocked from the inside or if it is not latched.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the smooth operation and extends the lifespan of your lever set:
- Cleaning: Clean the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the satin chrome finish.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the latch bolt and internal mechanisms if you notice stiffness or friction. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust and grime.
- Tightening Screws: Over time, mounting screws may loosen. Periodically check and tighten all visible screws to ensure the lever set remains securely attached to the door.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Cal-Royal CR-SL50-26D lever set, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Lever is stiff or hard to turn. | Lack of lubrication, internal debris, or misaligned components. | Apply silicone lubricant to the latch bolt and internal moving parts. Check for any obstructions. Ensure mounting screws are not overtightened, which can bind the mechanism. |
| Latch bolt does not retract fully. | Misalignment of the lever assembly or deadlatch, debris in the mechanism. | Check that the lever assemblies are properly aligned and securely fastened. Clean any visible debris. Lubricate the latch mechanism. |
| Door does not latch properly. | Misaligned strike plate or latch bolt, worn latch bolt. | Adjust the strike plate position on the door frame to ensure proper engagement with the latch bolt. Inspect the latch bolt for wear; if severely worn, replacement may be necessary. |
| Lever set feels loose on the door. | Loose mounting screws. | Tighten all mounting screws. Do not overtighten. |
