4. Setup

4.1 Mounting

  1. Select Location: Choose a suitable outdoor location, such as a wall or eave, ensuring the motion sensor has an unobstructed view of the desired detection area. Avoid aiming the sensor at reflective surfaces or heat sources that could cause false triggers.
  2. Prepare Mounting Surface: Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the weight of the fixture.
  3. Install Mounting Hardware: Secure the mounting plate (if applicable) to the junction box using the provided screws. Ensure the gasket is properly seated to prevent water intrusion.

4.2 Wiring

IMPORTANT: Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before proceeding with wiring.

  1. Connect Ground Wire: Connect the bare copper or green ground wire from the fixture to the ground wire from the junction box using a wire nut.
  2. Connect Neutral Wire: Connect the white neutral wire from the fixture to the white neutral wire from the junction box using a wire nut.
  3. Connect Live Wire: Connect the black live wire from the fixture to the black live wire from the junction box using a wire nut.
  4. Secure Fixture: Carefully tuck all wires into the junction box and secure the floodlight fixture to the mounting plate.

4.3 Initial Power-Up and Testing

  1. Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.
  2. Test Mode: The floodlight may enter a test mode, staying on for a short period or cycling. Follow specific instructions on the fixture itself or in supplementary documentation for adjusting sensor settings.
  3. Adjust Lamp Heads: Aim the two floodlight lamp heads to cover the desired illumination area.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Motion Sensor Adjustment

The motion sensor typically features adjustable controls for sensitivity and time duration. These controls are usually located on the underside or side of the sensor unit.

  • Sensitivity (SENS): Adjusts how far the sensor can detect motion. A higher setting increases the detection range.
  • Time (TIME): Sets how long the light remains on after motion is detected and stops. Common settings range from a few seconds to several minutes.
  • Dusk-to-Dawn (LUX/DAYLIGHT): This control determines the ambient light level at which the sensor becomes active. Set to a lower LUX for activation only in darker conditions, or higher for activation in brighter conditions.

5.2 Light Operation Modes

The floodlight operates primarily in motion-activated mode. Depending on the LUX setting, it will only activate when motion is detected during low light conditions. Some models may offer a manual override to keep the lights on continuously; refer to the specific controls on your unit for this feature.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

To maintain optimal performance and appearance, clean the floodlight periodically. Ensure power is disconnected before cleaning.

  • Wipe the fixture with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or cleaners containing alcohol, as these can damage the finish or sensor lens.
  • Gently clean the motion sensor lens to ensure clear detection.

6.2 Bulb Replacement

WARNING: Disconnect power before replacing bulbs. Allow bulbs to cool completely before touching.

  1. Ensure power to the fixture is turned off at the circuit breaker.
  2. Allow the existing bulb(s) to cool down if they have been recently in use.
  3. Carefully unscrew the old incandescent bulb(s) from the lamp holder.
  4. Screw in new incandescent bulb(s) of the correct type and wattage (up to 300 watts total for the fixture). Do not overtighten.
  5. Restore power and test the floodlight.

7. Troubleshooting

If your floodlight is not operating correctly, refer to the following table for common issues and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Light does not turn on.No power; faulty bulb; sensor setting too low (LUX); wiring issue.Check circuit breaker; replace bulb; adjust LUX setting; verify wiring connections.
Light stays on continuously.Sensor in test mode; continuous motion detected; wiring error; faulty sensor.Allow test mode to expire; check for constant motion in detection zone; verify wiring; contact support if sensor is faulty.
Light turns on for no apparent reason.Sensor too sensitive; heat sources or reflective objects in detection zone; small animals.Reduce sensitivity (SENS); reposition sensor to avoid false triggers; clear detection zone.
Detection range is too short or too long.Incorrect sensitivity setting; obstruction.Adjust sensitivity (SENS) control; ensure clear line of sight for the sensor.

If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contact Cooper Lighting customer support or a qualified electrician.
