Installation (Setup)

Follow these steps for safe and proper installation of your Zooz ZAC99 Momentary Push-Button in-Wall Switch.

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker controlling the switch location and turn off the power. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Remove Existing Switch: Carefully remove the wall plate and unscrew the existing switch from the electrical box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch.
  3. Identify Wires:
    • Line (Hot) Wire: Typically black, brings power from the circuit breaker.

  6. Install Wall Plate: Attach the wall plate over the switch.
  7. Restore Power: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker.

Note: This switch is a momentary contact switch. It does not have a neutral wire connection and is designed for simple on/off momentary control. For advanced functionality with Z-Wave dimmer modules, refer to the specific instructions for your Z-Wave device regarding momentary switch configuration.

Operating Instructions

The Zooz ZAC99 switch provides momentary control based on its application.

For Garbage Disposals or Similar Devices:

  • To Activate: Press and hold the upper part of the paddle switch. The connected device (e.g., garbage disposal) will remain active as long as the button is held.
  • To Deactivate: Release the button. The device will turn off.

When Used with a Z-Wave Dimmer Module (Accessory Control):

When configured with a compatible Z-Wave dimmer module (e.g., Aeotec ZW111, Fibaro FGD-212, Qubino ZMNHDD3, ZMNHWD3), the ZAC99 can provide local control for lighting.

  • Turn On/Off: Tap the upper part of the paddle switch once to toggle the light on or off.
  • Adjust Brightness: Press and hold the upper part of the paddle switch to adjust the brightness. Release when the desired brightness level is reached.

Important: The Z-Wave dimmer module must be configured to recognize a momentary switch for this functionality. Refer to your Z-Wave dimmer module's instruction manual for specific configuration settings (e.g., parameter settings for momentary switch type).

Maintenance

The Zooz ZAC99 switch requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: To clean the switch, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure power is off before cleaning.
  • Periodic Checks: Periodically check the wall plate and switch for any signs of damage or loose connections. If any issues are observed, turn off power and consult a qualified electrician.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your ZAC99 switch, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Device Not Responding:
    • Ensure power is supplied to the switch at the circuit breaker.
    • Verify all wiring connections are secure and correct.
    • Check the connected load (e.g., garbage disposal) to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Not Controlling Z-Wave Dimmer Module:
    • Confirm that the Z-Wave dimmer module is properly installed and powered.
    • Ensure the Z-Wave dimmer module is configured to operate with a momentary switch. This usually involves adjusting a parameter in your Z-Wave hub or controller settings. Refer to the dimmer module's manual for specific instructions (e.g., Zooz Zen72, Option 19, set to Momentary switch).
    • Verify the wiring between the ZAC99 and the Z-Wave dimmer module is correct according to the dimmer module's accessory switch wiring diagram.
  • Switch Feels Stiff or Hard to Press:
    • The switch is designed for a tactile click. If it feels unusually stiff or unresponsive, ensure it is properly seated in the electrical box and not obstructed by the wall plate.
