3. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the steam basket(s), rice bowl, and lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the steamer base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the steamer base in water.
  3. Placement: Place the steamer base on a stable, heat-resistant, and level surface, away from walls or cabinets to allow for steam ventilation.
  4. Fill Water Reservoir: Fill the water reservoir with cold tap water up to the maximum fill line. Do not overfill. Ensure the water level is always above the minimum line during operation.
  5. Assemble: Place the steam basket(s) onto the steamer base. If using the rice bowl, place it inside the upper steam basket. Cover with the lid.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. General Steaming

  1. Ensure the water reservoir is filled to the appropriate level.
  2. Place food directly into the steam basket(s). For smaller items or items that may fall through, use the rice bowl or a heat-safe plate within the basket.
  3. Place the lid securely on top of the steam basket.
  4. Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
  5. Turn the timer dial to the desired steaming time. Refer to a cooking guide for recommended times for various foods (e.g., vegetables, fish, poultry).
  6. The steamer will begin to generate steam. The indicator light may illuminate.
  7. When the timer reaches zero, the appliance will automatically shut off.
  8. Carefully remove the lid, using oven mitts, as hot steam will escape.
  9. Remove cooked food.

4.2. Rice Cooking

  1. Measure the desired amount of rice and rinse thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Place the rinsed rice into the rice bowl.
  3. Add the appropriate amount of water to the rice bowl. A common ratio is 1 cup of rice to 1.5-2 cups of water, but always refer to the rice packaging for specific instructions.
  4. Place the rice bowl into the upper steam basket.
  5. Ensure the main water reservoir is filled to the maximum line.
  6. Place the lid securely on top.
  7. Plug in the appliance and set the timer. For white rice, typically 20-30 minutes is sufficient, but adjust based on rice type and desired consistency.
  8. Once the timer completes and the unit shuts off, allow the rice to rest for 5-10 minutes with the lid on before serving. This allows the steam to finish cooking and firm the rice.

5. Care and Cleaning

Proper care and cleaning will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Oster Food Steamer.

  1. Unplug and Cool: Always unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Disassemble: Remove the lid, steam basket(s), and rice bowl from the steamer base.
  3. Hand Wash Components: The lid, steam basket(s), and rice bowl are recommended for hand washing. Wash them in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely.
  4. Clean Steamer Base: Wipe the exterior of the steamer base with a damp cloth. If there are food residues in the water reservoir, carefully wipe them out. Do NOT immerse the steamer base in water or any other liquid.
  5. Descaling (Mineral Deposits): Over time, mineral deposits from water may accumulate on the heating element. To descale, fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts water. Run the steamer for 20-30 minutes. Unplug, let cool, then drain and rinse the reservoir thoroughly. Repeat if necessary.
  6. Storage: Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing. Store the appliance in a cool, dry place.
