The rear panel houses all input and output connections, including the AC power input, master XLR and RCA outputs, booth and record outputs, and various RCA inputs for each channel (Line A, Line B, Phono). It also features a second microphone input and switches for EQ defeat and input source selection.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the mixer from its packaging and inspect for any signs of damage. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or storage.
  2. Power Connection: Connect the included power cable to the AC input on the rear panel of the C2 mixer and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting.
  3. Rack Mounting: The Numark C2 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Secure the mixer using appropriate rack screws (not included) into a rack enclosure.
  4. Audio Inputs:
    • Connect your audio sources (turntables, CD players, media players) to the corresponding RCA inputs on the rear panel. Each channel typically offers Line A, Line B, and Phono inputs.
    • Ensure turntables are connected to PHONO inputs and other devices to LINE inputs. Connect the ground wire from turntables to the mixer's ground terminal if applicable.
  5. Microphone Inputs: Connect microphones to the MIC 1 input on the front panel (XLR/1/4" combo) or MIC 2 input on the rear panel (1/4").
  6. Audio Outputs:
    • Master Output: Connect the MASTER XLR or RCA outputs to your main sound system or amplifier.
    • Booth Output: Connect the BOOTH RCA outputs to your monitor speakers.
    • Record Output: Connect the RECORD RCA outputs to a recording device.
  7. Power On: Once all connections are secure, switch the power button on the front panel to the ON position.

Operating Instructions

Basic Mixing:

  1. Input Selection: For each channel, use the input selector switch on the rear panel to choose between Line A, Line B, or Phono.
  2. Gain Adjustment: Use the GAIN knob at the top of each channel strip to adjust the input level. Aim for the signal to be strong but not clipping (indicated by the channel's peak LED).
  3. Channel Faders: Use the vertical faders for each channel to control the volume of that specific input.
  4. Crossfader: The crossfader at the bottom of the mixer allows for smooth transitions between assigned channels. Use the ASSIGN switches above the crossfader to route channels to either side (A or B) of the crossfader.
  5. Master Output: Adjust the MASTER fader to control the overall output volume of the mixer. Monitor the master level meters to prevent clipping.

Equalization (EQ):

  • The C2 features a five-band graphic equalizer in the master section. Use the sliders to boost or cut specific frequency ranges (e.g., 60Hz, 250Hz, 1KHz, 4KHz, 16KHz) to tailor the overall sound.
  • The EQ can be defeated (bypassed) using a switch on the rear panel if a flat frequency response is desired.

Microphone Section:

  • Gain: Adjust the MIC GAIN knob for the microphone input.
  • EQ: Use the TREBLE and BASS knobs to adjust the tone of the microphone signal.
  • Talkover: Engage the TALKOVER function to automatically reduce the music volume when speaking into the microphone. Adjust the SENSITIVITY knob to set the threshold for this function.
  • Auto-Muting: The microphone section includes an auto-muting feature with adjustable sensitivity to prevent feedback.

Cueing and Monitoring:

  • Cue Send: Press the CUE SEND button on any channel to send its audio to the headphone output for pre-listening without affecting the main mix.
  • Headphone Gain: Adjust the HEADPHONE GAIN knob to control the volume of your headphones.
  • Cue Mode: Use the CUE MODE control to blend between the cued channel(s) and the master output in your headphones.

Fader Start:

The C2 supports fader-start functionality. When connected to compatible CD players or media players, moving a channel fader or the crossfader can initiate playback. Refer to your media player's manual for compatibility and connection details.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the exterior of the mixer with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Dust Protection: Keep the mixer covered when not in use to prevent dust accumulation, which can affect faders and knobs.
  • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Storage: Store the mixer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power:
    • Check that the power cable is securely connected to both the mixer and a working power outlet.
    • Ensure the power switch on the mixer is in the ON position.
  • No Sound Output:
    • Verify that all audio cables are correctly connected to the inputs and outputs.
    • Check the GAIN knobs for each channel and the MASTER fader are set to appropriate levels.
    • Ensure the input selector switches on the rear panel are set to the correct source.
    • Confirm that your amplifier or powered speakers are turned on and functioning correctly.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the GAIN levels for individual channels and the MASTER fader if the peak LEDs are consistently lit.
    • Check that PHONO inputs are used only for turntables and LINE inputs for other devices.
  • Microphone Feedback:
    • Reduce microphone GAIN.
    • Adjust the SENSITIVITY for the auto-muting feature.
    • Reposition the microphone to avoid pointing it directly at speakers.
