Product Overview

Figure 1: Macrom M-SW1000 Compact Subwoofer. This image displays the top-down view of the black, rectangular subwoofer unit. The top surface features a circular speaker grille, indicating the 10-inch speaker. Along one side, a control panel with various inputs and adjustment knobs is visible. The unit is designed for discreet installation, such as under a car seat.

The Macrom M-SW1000 is an amplified compact subwoofer designed to deliver deep and controlled bass in vehicles with limited space. Its ultra-slim profile, measuring only 60mm in height, allows for flexible installation options, including under a seat. The unit integrates a 10-inch double coil speaker and an internal amplifier. The side panel provides convenient access to high-level or line-level inputs with an auto-sensing function, along with controls for sound optimization.

Setup

1. Placement

Select a suitable location for the subwoofer. Common locations include under a front seat, in the trunk, or behind a rear seat. Ensure the chosen location provides adequate ventilation and does not interfere with vehicle operation or passenger safety. The compact design of the M-SW1000 makes it ideal for under-seat installation.

2. Wiring Connections

Power Connection: Connect the main power wire (typically red) to the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery. Install an appropriate fuse (not supplied) within 18 inches (45 cm) of the battery. The wire gauge should be sufficient for the 200W power output.

Ground Connection: Connect the ground wire (typically black) to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle chassis. Ensure a solid electrical connection to prevent noise and performance issues.

Remote Turn-On: Connect the remote turn-on wire (typically blue) to the remote output of your head unit. If your head unit does not have a remote output, the M-SW1000 features an auto-sensing function for high-level inputs, which can automatically turn the unit on when an audio signal is detected.

Audio Input:

  • High-Level Input: If your head unit does not have RCA outputs, connect the speaker wires from your head unit directly to the high-level input terminals on the subwoofer. Ensure correct polarity.
  • Line-Level (RCA) Input: If your head unit has RCA outputs, connect RCA cables from the head unit's subwoofer or full-range outputs to the RCA input jacks on the M-SW1000.

3. Mounting

Secure the subwoofer using the provided mounting hardware. Ensure it is firmly attached to a stable surface to prevent movement during vehicle operation.

Operating

1. Initial Power-Up

After all connections are made and secured, reconnect the vehicle's battery. Turn on your head unit. The subwoofer should power on, indicated by an LED indicator (if present).

2. Adjusting Controls

The side panel of the M-SW1000 provides controls for optimizing sound:

  • Gain Control: Adjust this to match the output level of your head unit. Start with the gain at minimum and slowly increase it until the bass blends well with the rest of your audio system without distortion.
  • Low-Pass Filter (LPF): This control sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Typically, set it between 80Hz and 120Hz. Adjust it to ensure the subwoofer only reproduces low frequencies and does not overlap with your main speakers.
  • Phase Switch: This switch (0° or 180°) helps to align the subwoofer's output with the main speakers. Listen to music and switch between 0° and 180° to find the setting that produces the most impactful and coherent bass.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the subwoofer. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage or wear.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the area around the subwoofer remains clear to allow for proper heat dissipation.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No PowerBlown fuse; loose power/ground connection; no remote signal.Check and replace fuse; verify power and ground connections; ensure remote wire is connected or auto-sensing is active.
No SoundNo audio input; gain too low; LPF set too low; phase issue.Check RCA/high-level input connections; increase gain; adjust LPF; try switching phase.
Distorted SoundGain set too high; input signal too strong; damaged speaker.Reduce gain; check head unit output level; inspect speaker for damage.
Unit OverheatsInsufficient ventilation; prolonged high-volume use; impedance mismatch.Ensure proper airflow around the unit; reduce volume; verify speaker impedance (if applicable).
