  • Do not expose speakers to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Use appropriate wiring and connectors as specified for audio equipment.

Setup and Installation

The Sonance MAG6R speakers are designed for in-ceiling installation. Proper planning and execution are crucial for optimal performance and safety.

1. Planning Speaker Placement

Consider the acoustics of your room and the desired sound field. For surround sound systems, refer to your audio receiver's manual for recommended speaker layouts. Ensure there are no obstructions (e.g., joists, electrical wiring, plumbing) in the ceiling where you plan to install the speakers.

2. Preparing the Mounting Hole

The mounting cutout diameter is 9-3/4 inches. The mounting depth required is approximately 4 inches.

  1. Using the provided cutout template (if applicable, or measure carefully), mark the desired location on the ceiling.
  2. Carefully cut the opening using a drywall saw or appropriate tool.

3. Wiring the Speakers

Connect appropriate gauge speaker wire from your amplifier or receiver to the speaker terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for all speakers in your system.

  • Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12 mm) of insulation from the ends of the speaker wire.
  • Press down on the terminal tabs on the speaker and insert the bare wire ends into the corresponding holes. Release the tabs to secure the wire.

4. Mounting the Speakers

The speakers feature integrated mounting clamps for secure installation.

  1. Carefully insert the speaker into the cutout hole.
  2. Tighten the mounting screws on the front baffle of the speaker. This will rotate the mounting clamps outwards and secure the speaker to the ceiling material. Do not overtighten.

5. Attaching the Grille

The perforated steel grilles attach magnetically for a clean, flush finish.

  • Align the grille with the speaker frame.
  • The magnets will pull the grille into place, securing it firmly.
  • The grilles can be painted to match your ceiling color before installation.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, the Sonance MAG6R speakers operate as part of your audio system. There are no direct controls on the speakers themselves.

Adjusting Pivoting Tweeter and Woofer

The 1" silk-dome tweeter and 6-1/2" glass fiber woofer are pivoting, allowing you to direct the sound towards the primary listening area for optimized audio performance.

  • Gently push the edge of the tweeter or woofer assembly to angle it as desired.
  • Avoid excessive force to prevent damage.

Maintenance

The Sonance MAG6R speakers require minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the grilles and speaker frame. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Grille Painting: If painting the grilles, ensure they are clean and dry. Use a thin coat of paint to avoid clogging the perforations, which could affect sound quality. Allow to dry completely before reattaching.
  • Inspection: Periodically check speaker connections to ensure they remain secure.
