Setup and Assembly

Follow these steps to assemble your Fluval ProVac:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging. Verify that all components are present: main unit with motor, filter cartridge, dual density filter pad, extender nozzle, and power adapter.
  2. Install Filter Pad: Open the quick-release filter cartridge. Insert the dual density filter pad into the cartridge, ensuring it sits correctly. Close the cartridge securely.
  3. Attach Extender Nozzle (Optional): For deeper aquariums, attach the extender nozzle to the main suction inlet of the ProVac. Ensure it clicks into place firmly.
  4. Connect Power Adapter: Plug the power adapter into the designated port on the ProVac handle. Ensure the connection is secure. Do not plug into a wall outlet yet.

Operating Instructions

To clean your aquarium gravel:

  1. Submerge the Unit: Fully submerge the suction end of the ProVac into the aquarium water. Ensure the motor unit remains above the water line if not fully waterproof (check product specifications for full waterproofing).
  2. Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into a suitable electrical outlet.
  3. Select Speed: Turn on the device and select your desired speed setting (low or high) using the control button on the handle.
  4. Clean Gravel: Gently move the suction nozzle through the gravel. The powerful suction will draw water and debris into the filter cartridge, while the gravel guard prevents large gravel from entering. The integrated LED spotlight will illuminate the cleaning area.
  5. Use Pause Feature: If gravel becomes trapped in the nozzle, press the pause button to temporarily stop suction, allowing the gravel to fall back into the tank. Release the button to resume cleaning.
  6. Water Change Function (Optional): To perform a water change, remove the filter cartridge and attach a suitable hose (sold separately) to the water change adapter port. Direct the hose to a drain or bucket. The ProVac will then pump water out of the aquarium.
  7. Finish Cleaning: Once cleaning is complete, turn off the device and unplug it from the power outlet. Carefully remove the ProVac from the aquarium.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Fluval ProVac.

  1. Clean Filter Cartridge: After each use, or when suction power decreases, remove the quick-release filter cartridge. Open it and remove the dual density filter pad. Rinse the filter pad thoroughly under clean running water until all debris is removed.
  2. Clean Gravel Guard: Inspect and clean the gravel guard at the suction inlet to ensure it is free of debris and not clogged.
  3. Replace Filter Pad: The dual density filter pad (Item 11078) should be replaced periodically, depending on usage and debris accumulation. Replace when the pad shows signs of wear or cannot be cleaned effectively.
  4. Store Properly: After cleaning, allow all components to air dry completely before reassembling and storing the ProVac in a dry, safe place.
