2. Setup and Preparation
Proper preparation is crucial for successful application of vinyl graphics using ORACAL High Tack Transfer Tape.
2.1 Unrolling the Tape
Carefully unroll the desired length of transfer tape from the bulk roll. Ensure the tape remains free of creases or wrinkles, which can affect application quality.
2.2 Surface and Vinyl Preparation
- Ensure the vinyl graphic is clean and free of dust or debris.
- For optimal adhesion, the application surface (e.g., glass, wall) should also be clean, dry, and free of oils or contaminants.
- If applying to a painted surface, ensure the paint is fully cured to prevent damage upon removal.
3. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for effective application of vinyl graphics using ORACAL High Tack Transfer Tape.
3.1 Applying Transfer Tape to Vinyl
- Lay the vinyl graphic flat with the release liner facing down.
- Carefully align the ORACAL High Tack Transfer Tape over the vinyl graphic, ensuring it covers the entire design.
- Starting from one edge, slowly apply the transfer tape to the vinyl, using a squeegee (a free blue applicator squeegee is included with the product) to smooth out any air bubbles and ensure firm adhesion. Work from the center outwards.
- Firmly burnish the transfer tape onto the vinyl using the squeegee, applying even pressure across the entire design.
3.2 Transferring the Vinyl Graphic
- Slowly peel the transfer tape away from the vinyl's release liner at a sharp angle (180 degrees). Ensure the vinyl graphic adheres completely to the transfer tape. If parts of the graphic do not lift, lay the tape back down and re-burnish.
- Position the transfer tape with the vinyl graphic onto your desired application surface.
- Starting from the center, firmly apply the graphic to the surface using the squeegee, working outwards to remove any air bubbles.
- Once the graphic is fully adhered, slowly peel the ORACAL High Tack Transfer Tape away from the vinyl graphic at a sharp angle. If the vinyl lifts, lay the tape back down and re-burnish.
- Discard the used transfer tape.
4. Maintenance and Storage
Proper storage ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your ORACAL High Tack Transfer Tape.
- Store the transfer tape in its original packaging or a protective container to prevent dust and debris accumulation.
- Keep the tape in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Avoid storing the tape on its side for extended periods to prevent flattening or deformation of the roll. Store upright if possible.
5. Troubleshooting
Common issues and their solutions when using ORACAL High Tack Transfer Tape.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Vinyl not sticking to transfer tape. | Insufficient pressure during application; vinyl surface not clean. | Re-burnish with more pressure; ensure vinyl is clean before applying tape. |
| Air bubbles under transfer tape or vinyl. | Improper squeegee technique; uneven application. | Apply tape slowly from one edge, working outwards with firm, even squeegee strokes. |
| Vinyl not releasing from transfer tape onto surface. | Surface not clean or prepared; insufficient burnishing on application surface. | Ensure surface is clean and dry; re-burnish vinyl onto the application surface before peeling tape. Peel tape slowly at a sharp angle. |
