5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation and Removal

  1. To install the battery: Align the battery pack with the receptacle on the tool and slide it in until it clicks into place. Ensure it is securely latched.
  2. To remove the battery: Press the battery release button (usually located on the side of the battery pack) and slide the battery out of the tool.

Important Battery Compatibility Note:

  • The BSL36A18 battery is not compatible with the cordless fan (UF18DSDL). Forcibly attaching it may cause malfunction.
  • The BSL36A18 battery is not compatible with conventional 36V products (BSL3620, BSL3626, BSL3660 compatible products).
  • Conventional batteries (BSL3620, BSL3626, BSL3660, and BSL14XX series) are not compatible with this tool.

5.2 Attaching the Side Handle and Depth Gauge

  1. Loosen the side handle clamp.
  2. Slide the side handle onto the front of the tool. Adjust its position for comfortable grip.
  3. Insert the depth gauge into the hole on the side handle. Adjust the depth according to your drilling requirements.
  4. Tighten the side handle clamp to secure both the handle and depth gauge.

5.3 Installing the Drill Bit

  1. Ensure the tool is switched off and the battery is removed.
  2. Pull back the chuck sleeve and insert the SDS-Plus drill bit into the chuck.
  3. Rotate the bit slightly until it engages with the locking mechanism.
  4. Release the chuck sleeve. Pull on the bit to ensure it is securely locked. There should be a small amount of play, which is normal for SDS-Plus systems.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Selecting Operating Mode

The DH36DPA offers three operating modes. Use the mode selector switch (refer to Figure 2.3) to choose the appropriate mode for your task:

  • Rotation Mode (Drill Icon): For drilling into wood, metal, or plastic without hammering action.
  • Rotation + Hammering Mode (Drill + Hammer Icon): For drilling into concrete, masonry, and other hard materials.
  • Hammering Mode (Hammer Icon): For chiseling or light demolition work (requires appropriate chisel bit, sold separately).

6.2 Basic Drilling Operation

  1. Ensure the correct drill bit is installed and the battery is charged and inserted.
  2. Select the desired operating mode.
  3. Hold the tool firmly with both hands, using the main handle and the side handle.
  4. Position the drill bit at the desired drilling location.
  5. Press the trigger switch to start the tool. The speed can be adjusted by varying the pressure on the trigger.
  6. Apply steady, even pressure to the tool. Do not force the drill. Allow the tool to do the work.
  7. Once drilling is complete, release the trigger switch.

6.3 Reactive Force Control (RFC)

The RFC function automatically stops the motor if the drill bit suddenly binds or locks up, reducing the risk of kickback and potential injury. This feature is always active when the tool is in operation.

6.4 LED Vertical Support Function

This tool may feature an LED vertical support function to assist in maintaining a perpendicular drilling angle. When activated, an LED indicator will provide visual feedback to help guide the user in keeping the drill bit straight during operation.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Always disconnect the battery before cleaning.
  • Regularly clean the ventilation openings on the tool to prevent overheating. Use a soft brush or compressed air.
  • Wipe the tool housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Clean the chuck regularly to ensure smooth bit changes.

7.2 Battery Care

  • Charge batteries fully before first use.
  • Do not store batteries in direct sunlight or in areas with high temperatures.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
  • Do not short-circuit battery terminals.
  • If the battery is not used for an extended period, charge it periodically to maintain its lifespan.

7.3 Storage

  • Store the tool and accessories in the provided storage case.
  • Keep the tool in a dry, secure location out of reach of children.
  • Ensure the battery is removed from the tool before storage.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HiKOKI Rotary Hammer Drill, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Tool does not start: Check if the battery is fully charged and properly inserted. Ensure the trigger switch is fully depressed.
  • Reduced power or performance: The battery may be low on charge. Recharge the battery. Ensure the correct mode is selected for the material.
  • Excessive vibration: Check if the drill bit is properly installed and not bent or damaged. Ensure the side handle is securely tightened.
  • Overheating: Ensure ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris. Allow the tool to cool down if it becomes excessively hot.
  • Bit stuck in material: If the bit gets stuck, the RFC function should stop the tool. Carefully remove the tool from the material. Do not force it.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact HiKOKI customer support or an authorized service center.
