4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Navigating the Interface

The T300 features a 3.5-inch color TFT-LCD touch screen for intuitive navigation. Additionally, physical buttons are provided for common functions and menu navigation.

  • Use the touch screen to select menu options and input data.
  • The directional pad and function buttons below the screen provide alternative control for precise adjustments and menu selections.

4.2 Performing a Measurement

  1. Connect Fiber: Ensure the fiber under test is clean and properly connected to the OTDR's optical port. Use appropriate fiber optic connectors.
  2. Select Test Mode: From the main menu, select the desired test mode (e.g., Auto Test, Manual Test).
  3. Configure Parameters (Manual Mode): If in Manual Test mode, set parameters such as wavelength (1550nm), pulse width, distance range, and measurement time according to the fiber length and characteristics.
  4. Start Measurement: Press the "Start" or "Measure" button to initiate the OTDR trace.
  5. Analyze Results: Once the measurement is complete, the trace will be displayed on the screen. Analyze the trace for events (splices, connectors, breaks) and measure fiber length and loss.

4.3 Saving and Transferring Data

  • Saving Traces: After a measurement, select the "Save" option from the menu. You can typically name the file and choose a storage location (internal memory or SD card). The device can store over 800 traces.
  • USB Stick Transfer: Insert a USB stick into the designated USB port. Navigate to the file management menu to copy saved traces to the USB stick.
  • PC Connection: Connect the T300 to a PC using a USB cable. Utilize ActiveSync software (or equivalent) to transfer data directly to your computer for further analysis and reporting.
  • Printing: The device supports direct printing to compatible USB printers.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Optical Port

Maintaining a clean optical port is crucial for accurate measurements and preventing damage to the device. Always clean the optical connector before connecting a fiber.

  • Use only approved fiber optic cleaning tools and lint-free wipes.
  • Never touch the end-face of the optical connector with bare hands.
  • Avoid using abrasive materials or solvents that are not specifically designed for fiber optic cleaning.

5.2 Battery Care

  • To maximize battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
  • If storing the device for an extended period, ensure the battery is charged to approximately 50% and recharge every few months.
  • Use only the original charger provided with the device.

5.3 Storage

  • Store the T300 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • When not in use, keep the protective caps on all optical ports to prevent dust and contamination.
  • Transport the device in its protective carrying case to prevent physical damage.
