3. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your water filter housing. It is recommended to install the housing at the main water supply line entering your home.
Installation Steps:
- Plan Location: Choose a suitable location for installation, typically where the main water supply enters the house, often near the hot water tank. Ensure there is enough space for maintenance and filter replacement.
- Shut Off Water Supply: Turn off the main water supply to your home.
- Mount Bracket: Securely mount the metal bracket to a sturdy wall or support structure using the provided screws. Ensure the bracket is level and can support the weight of the filled filter housing.
- Connect Plumbing: Connect the 1-inch NPT brass inlet/outlet ports of the filter housing to your main water line. Use ample PTFE (Teflon) tape on all threaded connections to prevent leaks. Some users recommend using both PTFE tape and pipe compound for a secure seal.
- Insert Filter Cartridge: Ensure a compatible 4.5-inch diameter by 20-inch filter cartridge (sold separately) is correctly seated inside the clear housing.
- Secure Housing: Screw the clear housing onto the black head unit. Be mindful to align the threads correctly to avoid cross-threading. Hand-tighten, then use the provided plastic wrench for a snug fit.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply. Check for any leaks around the connections and the housing.
- Bleed Air: Press the red air release button on top of the housing to release trapped air from the system. Hold until water begins to flow steadily.
Important: The material of the clear housing is not as strong as opaque blue housings. The suggested maximum work pressure is under 50 PSI. Operating temperatures should be between 40°F (4.4°C) and 110°F (43.3°C).

4. Operating Instructions
Once installed, the Geekpure 20-Inch Clear Whole House Water Filter Housing operates continuously as water flows through your main supply line. The primary operational aspect for the user is monitoring the filter cartridge.
Monitoring Filter Condition:
The clear housing design allows you to visually inspect the filter cartridge. This is a significant advantage as it helps you determine when the filter needs to be changed without guessing or opening the housing prematurely. Observe the filter for signs of discoloration, accumulation of sediment, or any visible algae growth. A heavily discolored or clogged filter indicates it's time for replacement to maintain optimal water flow and filtration efficiency.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance, primarily filter cartridge replacement, ensures your water filtration system continues to provide clean water efficiently.
Filter Cartridge Replacement:
The frequency of filter replacement depends on your water quality and usage. Visually inspect the filter through the clear housing. Replace the filter when it appears dirty or discolored, or if you notice a decrease in water pressure.
Steps for Filter Replacement:
- Shut Off Water: Turn off the main water supply to the filter housing.
- Relieve Pressure: Press the red air release button on top of the filter housing to relieve any built-up pressure. This makes unscrewing the housing easier.
- Unscrew Housing: Place a bucket underneath the housing to catch any dripping water. Use the provided plastic wrench to unscrew the clear housing from the black head unit.
- Remove Old Filter: Carefully remove the old, used filter cartridge.
- Clean Housing: Rinse the inside of the clear housing thoroughly with clean water. For sanitation, you may spray and wipe with a food-safe sanitizer solution. Ensure the O-ring on the housing is clean and free of debris.
- Lubricate O-ring: Apply a thin layer of food-grade silicone grease to the O-ring to ensure a proper seal and ease of future removal.
- Insert New Filter: Place the new 4.5-inch x 20-inch filter cartridge into the housing, ensuring it sits securely on the bottom bump.
- Reattach Housing: Carefully screw the clear housing back onto the head unit, ensuring threads are aligned. Hand-tighten, then use the plastic wrench for a final snug turn. Do not overtighten.
- Restore Water: Slowly turn on the main water supply. Check for leaks.
- Bleed Air: Press the red air release button again to purge any remaining air from the system.

6. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Water Leaks from Connections | Insufficient PTFE tape, improperly tightened connections, or misaligned threads. | Ensure all threaded connections have sufficient PTFE tape (e.g., 7-12 wraps) and are tightened securely. Verify threads are not cross-threaded. Consider using pipe thread sealant in addition to PTFE tape. |
| Water Leaks from Housing Seal | Damaged or improperly seated O-ring, or debris on the O-ring. | Inspect the O-ring for cracks or damage; replace if necessary. Clean the O-ring and its groove thoroughly. Apply food-grade silicone grease to the O-ring before reassembling the housing. Ensure the housing is tightened properly. |
| Water Leaks from Pressure Relief Button | Debris under the button or a faulty valve. | Press the button several times to dislodge any debris. If leaking persists, the valve may be faulty, and the housing head might need replacement. |
| Low Water Pressure | Clogged filter cartridge. | Visually inspect the filter through the clear housing. If it appears dirty or discolored, replace the filter cartridge. |
| Mounting Bracket Sagging | Insufficient support for the weight of the filled housing. | Ensure the bracket is mounted to a very sturdy surface. Consider adding additional support underneath the housing, such as a wooden block or shelf, especially for multiple housings in series. |
