1. Introduction

The ISDT BG-8S Smart Battery Checker is a versatile device designed for managing various types of hobby batteries. It provides detailed information about battery parameters, offers cell balancing, and includes additional functionalities such as a power bank feature and receiver signal testing.

2. Key Features

  • Multiple Measurement Connections: Supports XT60/XT60i, XH2.54 1-8S balance lead, XH2.54 3-pin, and JST connectors for voltage measurement. Compatible with LiHv, LiPo, LiIon, LiFe, NiMh/Cd batteries, and BEC output measurements.
  • Smart Battery Integration: Cooperates with BattGO technology via XT60i connection to provide detailed battery parameters, including cell voltage, battery cycles, and working parameters.
  • Automatic Cell Balancing: Features an advanced auto-balancing algorithm to ensure individual cells are well-balanced, optimizing battery performance and extending lifespan. Automatically enters low power mode upon completion.
  • Portable Charging Function: Can act as a power bank for mobile devices when connected to a battery. Supports Qualcomm QC 2.0/3.0, compatible with BC1.2 and Apple devices, with a maximum output of 12V/2A.
  • Receiver Signal Test and Protocol Analysis: Detects BEC output voltage via a standard 3-pin plug and supports multiple protocol analyses including PWM, PPM, and S.BUS. Future firmware upgrades will support additional protocols.
  • USB Upgrade and Multilanguage Support: Equipped with a Micro USB port for firmware upgrades and offers multiple language options.

3. Setup

  1. Power On: Connect the BG-8S to a power source. The device will power on and display the main interface.
  2. Connect Battery: Plug your battery's balance lead into the appropriate balance port on the side of the BG-8S. For XT60/XT60i compatible batteries, connect the main power lead to the XT60/XT60i port.
  3. Initial Display: Upon connection, the device will automatically detect the battery type and display key information such as total voltage and individual cell voltages.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Battery Information Display

Once a battery is connected, the BG-8S will show the total voltage, individual cell voltages, and estimated remaining capacity. Use the navigation buttons to scroll through different display modes if available.

4.2. Cell Balancing

  1. Connect your battery's balance lead to the BG-8S.
  2. Navigate to the balancing function in the menu.
  3. Select 'Balance' or 'Storage' mode as needed. The device will automatically begin balancing cells to equalize their voltages.

4.3. Power Bank Function

  1. Connect a charged battery to the BG-8S.
  2. Plug your USB device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) into the USB output port on the BG-8S.
  3. The device will begin charging your USB device, acting as a portable power bank.

4.4. Receiver Signal Test

  1. Connect your receiver to the 3-pin port on the BG-8S.
  2. Navigate to the 'Receiver Tester' function in the menu.
  3. The device will display the BEC output voltage and analyze supported protocols (PWM, PPM, S.BUS).

4.5. Chemistry Selection

The BG-8S supports various battery chemistries. To select the correct type:

  1. Access the main menu.
  2. Navigate to 'Chemistry' or 'Battery Type' setting.
  3. Select the appropriate chemistry (e.g., LiPo, LiHv, LiIon, LiFe, NiMh/Cd) for your connected battery.

5. Maintenance

  • Keep the device clean and free from dust and moisture.
  • Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Regularly check cables and connectors for wear or damage.
  • Ensure firmware is up-to-date for optimal performance and new features.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the power source is correctly connected and providing adequate voltage (10-34V DC input or 100-240V AC input).
  • Incorrect battery readings: Verify that the battery type selected in the settings matches the connected battery. Check all connections for proper seating.
  • Balancing not initiating: Confirm the balance lead is fully inserted and the battery is within the supported cell count (1-8S).
  • USB charging not working: Ensure a charged battery is connected to the BG-8S and the USB device is properly plugged in. Check the output settings for the power bank function.
